It is easy to see the idea behind a quota for Canadian content, but I don't believe any artists should be getting more exposure over someone else just because of their nationality. #mus2011f20
@HyyBernadette Good point! Every artist will have a different way of performing live and I think being able to perform the song as well as sing it is very entertaining.
#MUS2011F20 I would have to disagree with Wald's assessment of today's pop audience. As much as I appreciate the original song, listening to a live band perform (even if it is a cover band) really brings the song to life.
@dylan_power1 Many cover artists simply took ones song, sang it to a different melody and called it their own. Definitely lacked inspiration and creativity!
I don't believe there is any harm in covering a song if it is done with credit to the original artist and is out of love for the song. If an artist covers a song simply to appeal to a bigger audience and to create profit then yes it should be dismissed. #mus2011f20
I believe Ray Charles used a breaking voice to create personality and uniqueness to his music. In doing so he delivered music in a way that kept the listener wanting to hear more. #mus2011f20
Music streaming apps such as Spotify and Apple music makes millions of songs accessible in seconds. Having this type of variety helps me appreciate other genres of music I probably wouldn't be interested in if I had to go to a music store and purchase their CD. #mus2011f20
@HyyBernadette Couldn't agree more. When I first started to have interest in music I had to borrow my brothers MP3 and only had access to the music he was interested in and had downloaded.
@TaswafRahman Agreed! I have done this first hand. If I am with a group of friends and I am in charge of the music, the genre of music they listen to will make a difference to what type of music I will play.
A false need that the media industry has created is the need for new music from the artist. The artists will feel pressured to release new and "popular" songs that will hit the charts rather than music they want to create. #MUS2011F20
