The 92nd Sunningdale Foursomes begins tomorrow, as a field of 256 players, men and women, amateurs and professionals, take on the two historic courses in the game’s finest format.
As always, the draw is filled with fascinating names and pairings. Our Amateur Correspondent Hugo Cornell has combed through the field to pick out the most interesting stories ahead of the opening round.

I agree Sheldon. The players outside of the first choice 11 are good players (well most of them) and good enough to play a game out after the job is done. As a fan watching that last night, I was never comfortable. Too many stray passes and players still nervous on the ball or don’t seem to be getting into the right positions.
@MattRobertsTTP fun fact. Prior to tonight, when have two tennis players with the same three letters at the end of both their first and last names competed against each other?
@SkySportsGolf does golf need a rethink for viewer engagement? Instead of having one cut, have a cut after every round. Unless you’re within 12 shots of the lead, you miss the cut after round 1, then within 10 after round 2 and within 8 after round 3. Condense the field. Only 20 players in with a realistic chance of winning today.
@beverleyturner AI has had the opposite effect to me. It’s actually made me more creative and productive. New beginnings! I suspect many will have a similar tale to tell.
