Confirming what @SamMcDowell11 reported & despite the city council's laser focus on Washington Square Park and the former Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City headquarters, multiple sources have told me the @Royals' announcement tomorrow will be about a downtown ballpark. (1/2)
Breaking: @royals owner John Sherman just unleashed a bombshell on @kcmotalkradio@PeteMundo He is still working with officials in Kansas for a new ballpark. Also says he’s working with people in Northland and it’s a “well organized effort.” “You have to have political leadership” to get it done.
@2024dion@DrewMitrisin Doing some quick math, if Overland Park had Lee's Summit's sales tax rate, it could eliminate its entire city mill levy (to be clear that would be completely reckless, just shows the scale of the difference)
@2024dion@DrewMitrisin Missouri state rate is more than 2% lower at 4.225%. Gives cities/counties more political/psychological ability to have their own rates higher. OP's city rate is 1.375%, Lee's Summit is 2.75%.
@2024dion@DrewMitrisin Yeah, in KS industrial revenue bonds are usually just a mechanism to achieve a sales tax exemption on construction materials, not "actual" bonds. The actual amount of sales tax saved can be on spending up to that amount, but only on actual eligible spending.
@2024dion Man I love a house in a walkable neighborhood in midtown but I don't know that this house facing a 6-lane highway is a big sell to people (and I used to live 200 ft off sw tfwy and loved it)
