I attended the annual National Conference of State Legislators meeting in Indianapolis. I also attended the State and Local Taxation Task Force meeting. It’s crucial to continue discussing the issues facing New Mexico and other states who face the same battles.

BCSO Deputies were recently dispatched to conduct a welfare check in the North Area Command. Upon reaching the location, they encountered a United States Veteran who, unfortunately, was physically unable to maintain the front yard, resulting in an overwhelming amount of weeds and bugs. Recognizing the challenges faced by the veteran, the deputies promptly reported the situation to their sergeant. Inspired by the veteran's service to the country, the north day shift squad and their sergeant decided to take matters into their own hands and lend a helping hand.

This heartwarming incident highlights the core values of the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office, which go beyond just upholding the law. It underscores their deep commitment to being caring and responsible community caretakers. While protecting the community is their primary duty, they also extend a helping hand to those in need, fostering a sense of unity and compassion within the neighborhoods they serve.

In 2015, I co-sponsored HB563 to establish the Rio Grande Trail Commission. This created a recreational trail for New Mexico residents and tourists to enjoy the natural beauty of our state and learn about New Mexican history and culture along the way. #TBT

I passed HB 199 which increases funding for k-12 school fine arts programs including band, chorus, orchestra, art, drama, and literature.
We know these to be critical in enriching students' public education experience and the data shows these students perform higher in math
