A lot of good things in gaming ended around 2014, specifically in sports games. They started looking better and getting more “realistic” of course, but they also lost their soul, their character, along with the influx of microtransactions. It was a totally different world.

I laugh every time I see someone suggest promotion and relegation in MLS because nothing could ever make American team owners agree to it.

But also, teams aren’t better in Europe BECAUSE they have pro/rel. They’re better mainly because they can pay players more (no salary cap).

MLS should take advantage of a successful World Cup by:

- Merging with USL
- Ending the common ownership aspects of the league
- Adopting pro/rel, with parachute payments to get current franchise owners on board
- Eliminating the salary cap so that clubs can buy the best players

Let American capitalism make it the best league in the world.

I’ve been thinking the rule needs a reform similar to Arsene Wenger’s daylight rule for years. Obviously you don’t want cherry picking and guys constantly standing near the goal (the whole point of the rule), so some form of the rule can stay, but reform is needed.

The discourse on the offside rule is so dumb. VAR reviews are annoying, but I’m fine with technology assisting with rules just like in other sports.

But VAR has illuminated the problem, which is the offside rule itself. The application has also completely surpassed its intent.
