The internal temperature of a vehicle can double the outdoor temperature quicker than you might imagine. Even cracking the window will do little to help during the summer.

If you're on the way back from a walk, or the cabin, or any adventures, bring your pets home before running out to do errands. If they suffer from separation anxiety, maybe make arrangements with friends or a family member so you can run errands. It is not worth the risk.
