Any Republican who continues to focus on the “violent vs nonviolent” distinction in determining which January 6 defendants deserve a pardon or commutation, while completely overlooking the core issue—the widespread due process violations—cannot genuinely claim to uphold the rule of law. If they were truly staunch defenders, they would be equally, if not more, concerned about the glaring due process failures faced by all January 6 defendants, regardless of the crimes alleged.
