During his off-season visits to Hot Springs, Arkansas, Babe Ruth developed his lifelong love of golf. Dressed in several layers of sweaters and wearing his cap backward, the Babe would start out just after dawn and customarily hack out 54 holes before dinner. Fairways at the Hot Springs course were lined by thick woods, and in the early days, Ruth was known to spend hours whacking foliage. His game improved in later years, although his demeanor on the links did not. When he topped a drive, Ruth was known to shout expletives instead of "fore!". When he sliced balls off course, the woods and hills were alive with the sound of Ruthian curses. Witnesses said they could sit on the clubhouse porch and follow Ruth's progress around the course by ear.
PLEASE TAKE THIS WARNING SERIOUSLY! There have been multiple fatalities across the Panhandle due to these water conditions.

One of the first great bibliophiles was Ptolemy Philadelphus, a prince under Ptolemaic rule. His goal was to fill his library at Alexandria with every book in the world. He wanted a specific Jewish law book so badly that he traded 100,000 captives for it. This is probably the highest price ever paid for a single work.
