Of course Russell Brand's followers deny the allegations. He has groomed an audience to deny/disbelieve everything they see and hear, which is very different from healthy skepticism. This knee-jerk denialism is precisely why people with plenty of skeletons in the closet love conspiracy culture: they have a built-in defense against accountability. It's all a conspiracy, always. I have met Brand, been on his show (years ago). It took a hell of a lot of courage for these women to come forward. They have all my solidarity.

Today, we remember the Greek anti-fascist rapper Pavlos Fyssas, better known by his stage name “Killah-P,” who was murdered ten years ago today by members of the neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn. He was stabbed twice in the heart when watching a football match with his partner and friends at a cafe in Keratsini. While still conscious, Fyssas said that Giorgos Roupakias, who worked in the cafeteria at the Golden Dawn offices, had stabbed him.

An investigation indicated that Golden Dawn members and officials organized his murder. Similarly, police special unit DIAS on the scene stood back and watched the neo-Nazi killer stab Fyassas. Despite being arrested following the murder, Roupakias was released from pre-trial custody in 2016 despite admitting to a judge that he had killed Fyssas.

Following Fyssas’ murder, massive protests forced the Greek judiciary to launch a case against the Golden Dawn party, the third largest party in parliament following the January 2015 election. In 2020, 68 defendants were subsequently convicted of running a criminal organization following a five-year trial. Roupakias was also finally convicted for Fyssas’s murder, receiving a life sentence.

Outside the courthouse, 20,000 people gathered to hear the verdict. The case was the largest trial of a Nazi organization since the Nuremberg trials of Nazi officials in 1945-46. However, the obvious collaboration between the police and the fascists went unpunished.

We remember Víctor Jara, a Chilean musician and member of the Chilean Communist Party, tortured and executed by the Pinochet dictatorship in 1973. Jara's torturers smashed his hands and mocked him by asking him to sing and play the guitar.

During the October 2019 uprising in Chile, thousands sang Jara's "El derecho de vivir en paz" ("The right to live in peace") and then chanted a famous slogan known throughout Latin America and the rest of the world but one that has its roots in Chile.

It probably wouldn’t surprise anyone on here, but I’ve inspected places with both leaky gas pipes and appliances with gas exhaust failures, or regulator issues at the same time resulting in an abundance of carbon monoxide in the property.

I’ve been to a number of properties where the gas inspector refused to issue gas safety certificates stating: “lucky there are so many holes in this house, or the tenants would be dead”.

Also, there have been no enforcement activities from the Victorian government regarding electrical and gas safety checks, resulting in landlords simply ✨not doing them✨
