"Itโs always been there for most of our lifetimes. There has never been a festival like it anywhere else."

What would apply is if they got into a shoving match and there was a knife in his backpack and the boy fell onto it. It was no one's intention to kill.
Probably an involuntary manslaughter charge would apply.
Obviously this isn't that.
What bothers me most about Karmelo Anthonyโs verdict? First-degree murder means the jury feels Karmelo viciously attacked Austin, a total stranger to him, in an intentional, deliberate rage. Theyโre saying that he set out to purposefully kill someone he didnโt know, over a bleacher seat, in the middle of a chaperoned high school event.
Even if the jury decided Karmelo still needed to accept some level of guilt in a life being lost โ a 35-year prison sentence and a first degree murder-conviction means the jury doesnโt see this as the tragic, tragic mistake between two young teens that it is.
Theyโre telling us Karmelo set out to end Austinโs life on purpose and with full intent.
When in reality, I think this is a regret and heartbreak Karmelo will carry for the rest of his life
After being denied access for weeks, I was finally allowed into Delaney Hall โ but what I received was a closely controlled and limited tour of the facility. That is unacceptable.
I was not allowed to meet or speak directly with the detainees, which continues to raise serious questions about the real conditions of the facility and the treatment of those held there. I will continue to push to speak with the detainees directly. They deserve to be heard and the public deserves answers.
