What women’s work songs reveal about the changing climate.
Long before climate science named the crisis, women across the world were registering these shifts in another language – through song. I write for @ConversationUK https://t.co/ZU8I4HFSLJ
Islamabad’s natural beauty is being stripped away with tree cutting and concrete projects, replaced with palm trees that belong to Gulf climates. It feels like we’re slowly losing the identity of the city.
This is what Srinagar Highway could look like if we planted Amaltas & Kachinar trees which are native to Islamabad. For added pops of colour some bougainvilleas hanging over the flyovers since they do well in our climate. Ai did this, maybe Mohsin Naqvi needs to get on ChatGPT
Saw CDA is cutting down indigenous trees along Srinagar Highway to replace them with palm trees. This obsession with the UAE will damage the capital’s ecosystem and summers will become unbearable. These incompetent & inexperienced urban planners r on the verge of ruining the city
In the quiet lanes of old Lahore,Multan,Rawalpindi,Peshawar,Karachi and other Pakistani cities, stand the faded havelis of our forefathers, silent witnesses to a time when life moved slower and homes had soul.
Their weathered wooden doors intricately carved with Jasmine flowers and geometric patterns, once welcomed generations with open arms, courtyards where children laughed under the shade of neem trees, where summer evenings were spent on charpoys listening to the dadi or nani's stories.
These havelis were not just houses ,they were living poems of our heritage.
Today,as modern concrete rises and swallows the skyline, these crumbling beauties remind us of roots we must not forget.
May these havelis forever live in our memories and in the stories we pass on to our children .

The violet ones are Jacaranda trees in #Islamabad, the host city of #US-#Iran peace talks in #Pakistan. These trees bloom during late spring & early summer (April to June), transforming streets and parks into scenic, violet-carpeted landscapes. These trees thrive in the city's climate, creating a picturesque, serene environment that draws visitors.
No matter how you try to diminish it, but today is a historic day, when Pakistan is the center of entire world holding its breath for peace. Whatever happens today, we would be remembered for trying to avert World War III. There’s no perfect country to love but this is Home ❤️
@mahwashajaz_@RanveerOfficial Have you talked to him? 😭 Where?
I know he is the smartest, the most articulate person in Bollywood. Love to listen to his interviews. 🤎
If you're seeing lots of pictures of Tehran's amazing coffee shops and wondering what that's all about, I wrote this essay 10 years ago about the rise of contemporary café culture in Iran and its connection to very old Iranian "third space" traditions.

“Every city has a sex and an age which have nothing to do with demography. Rome is feminine. So is Odessa. London is a teenager, an urchin, and in this hasn’t changed since the time of Dickens. Paris, I believe, is a man in his twenties in love with an older woman.”
-John Berger
I cannot stop thinking about Dr Ali Larijani’s book, Fresh Air (What a title!), described as a collection of essays on philosophy, culture & political thought. Scholars tend to write shorter essays in a revolutionary fashion – in easily accessible prose.
Reminds me of Sayyid Qutb’s radical writing, Signposts on the Road.
Dear “Global South”/ subaltern scholars, we ought to cite our own. The next time I design a course, Larijani ought to be mandatory reading.
After this war is won, we’ll seek an English translation.
