> be Sony
> cancel Factions
> cancel live service Spider-Man
> force Bluepoint to make live service game
> shut them down

> shut down Destiny 2
> Concord
"We want to revitalize the market with live service games".
What is this business strategy called?
Hermen Hulst is the guy who thought Concord would be “the future of PlayStation,” pushed for the panic acquisition of Bungie, and greenlit the development of Horizon: Hunters Gathering instead of a Killzone reboot. Under his leadership, Sony Interactive Entertainment have seen over $1B in value destruction, including ~$765M in impairment losses and ~$400M from the Concord / Firewalk failure. He is a walking, talking financial hazard to the entertainment industry
Guy who helped ruin D2 gets to “step down” while hundreds of devs who actually wanted to help the game get better get their livelihoods unceremoniously ripped away
Sony will shut down this studio.
Destiny won't have a team to make another game, Marathon is already dead, and no projects are green lit.
Generational fumble by both publisher and studio. The only possible upside of this is that PlayStation stays out of live service forever.
For years the creative industry has been eroded by greed. People who only wanted to use art to fill their own bank accounts and nothing else. NFTs. genAI. Tax writeoff movies. They'll drain everything they can get their hands on dry and move to the next.
IT'S ABOUT THE SYSTEM.
"I wish they'd stop calling me a terrorist. That's what I wish. I wish they'd stop calling me a radical. None of these people are radical. They just want healthcare. They want to end American militarism. They want to spend money on roads, infrastructure, on schooling, on healthcare, rather than bombs overseas." HASAN IS SPITTING 🔥
gaming industry's imploding and it really all traces back to greed. Even the console price increases go back to RAM and then AI and it's just techbros trying to monetize art. Hate it here
Disastrous leadership continues to be rewarded, protected, and paid out with their golden toilets. I hope they get everything they *truly* deserve, and that’s guilt, shame, and hopefully some actual fucking reflection
At what point does Hermen step down?
- Buys bungie for 3.6 billion only to layoff more than half of the studio, launch an underperforming game and kill Destiny
- Invests heavily into Concord (buys the studio & IP) only to shut it down less than 2 weeks after launch
- Buys Haven Studios, but founder & the game director leave because fairgames fails testing & has to be completely reworked
- Buys remake studio Bluepoint to have them work on a GoW live service, shuts them down
- Lets Guerrilla Games work for countless years on a fortnite Horizon game that is only appealing to a very small audience, but likely costs 300 million dollars + to make
- Partners with a studio who reveal 4loop a new live service to lukewarm reception
- Let Days Gone team Sony bend work on a live service game, cancels the game so many years & money is lost
- Lets London Studios known for VR games & other titles work on a live service, shuts them down
- Opens Dark Outlaw games by former Call of Duty Zombies people, shuts the studio down
I might be forgetting things... what a generation.
"As the leaders of Bungie, past and present, we recognize Destiny 2 fell short of expectations the past several years" ︀︀ ︀︀
You mean the same leaders that said this? ︀︀ ︀︀You mean like Pete Parsons who continued to lay people off while growing his car collection, even inviting devs to his house to flex his cars to before firing them the next day? ︀︀ ︀︀
The same leaders who screwed the company, the same leaders who screwed the game, and then because the game obviously tanked, the VERY SAME leaders who in the past and present toss the devs who put their heart and soul into keeping this game alive, out on the streets (in the worst economy and job market in recent history) like nothing. ︀︀ ︀︀
Bungie leadership is exactly why we're at this point. ︀︀ ︀︀
Sincerely, Fuck you Bungie leadership, and especially Pete, I hope the left over devs walk out and find a new company to work for.
I hate that we live in such a digital panopticon where people can just record you and post you to the worldwide web and get you fired at a whim. That being said, how are you an executive at JPMorgan and dumping trash on the ground to steal a public trash can?
Elon Musk once jokingly offered to end World Hunger, asking how much it would cost as if it would be some incalculable number.
When the UN replied saying 6.6 Billion would be enough to immediately end Famine for the year he never responded, and a few months later bought Twitter for 44 Billion.
You struggle and suffer because people like him are allowed to exist, not because your neighbor is an immigrant.
