#TDF2026 🚨 BIG TOUR DE FRANCE preview! 🇫🇷
Part I: course review and most likely scenario + potential winners
- 6 potential break aways stages
- 6 potential GC days
- 7 sprints (including stage 21)
- 1 TT
- 1 ITT
Stage 1: Barcelona - Barcelona
This years opener is a team time trial of 19.6 km. Nice to watch, hard to predict. I expect very small differences. First yellow jersey between Pogi, Jonas or Remco.
Stage 2: Tarragona - Barcelona
The final of this stage is very explosive. In the last 25 km they do a circuit with twice the Cote du chateau Montjuïc (1.6 km 9.3%), a fast descend and then 700 meters 7% to the finish. Pogi territory, on the limit for Mathieu van der Poel. No other possible winner. Pidcock, Evenepoel and Vingegaard top 5.
Stage 3: Granollers - les Angles
Interesting stage for the break you would say. A relatively easy opener but a hilly second part of the stage. It is 3.850 altitude meters in almost 200 km.
Dont be surprised if Trek is controlling this for a sprint if a weak break goes up the road. The final looks perfect for the likes of Pedersen, he doesnt get many chances. If too hard for Mads its perfect for the likes of Simmons, Healy, Vacek or Schmid.
Stage 4: Carcassonne - Foix
Up and down all day, hilly but not super hard. Perfect for a break. The fight to be in the break will be fun to watch. Trek will try to control for Mads again. For a break expect the same names like Abrahamsen, Schmid, Simmons, Vacek, Healy. In the Tour its the very best who win.
Stage 5: Lannemezan - Pau
Sprint (I): Merlier vs Kooij vs Philipsen and others.
Stage 6: Pau - Gavarne Gèdre
Aspin - Tourmalet. GC day and UAE/Pogi to test his opponents. Pogi to win.
Stage 7: Hagetmau - Bordeaux
Sprint (II): Merlier vs Kooij vs Philipsen and others.
Stage 8: Perigueux - Bergerac
Sprint (III): Merlier vs Kooij vs Philipsen and others.
Stage 9: Malemort - Ussel
Hilly stage - perfect for the break again! Same names as stage 3 and 4, strong riders like van der Poel and Pedersen might join the break themselfes.
Stage 10: Aurillac - Le Lorian
On paper this stage again looks good for the break, but its a very hard one and Pogi wants his revenge. Two years ago he got beaten by Vingegaard after collapsing on the front. Pogi to win again.
Stage 11: Vichy - Nevers
Sprint (IV): Merlier vs Kooij vs Philipsen and others.
Stage 12: Magny Cours - Chalon Sur Saône
Sprint (V): Merlier vs Kooij vs Philipsen and others.
Stage 13: Dole - Belfort
This one is hard to predict. Ballon d’Alsace is a beautiful climb - ridden it myself multiple times - but not too hard. Big group should be able to follow. Could be a good day for the break as it is too easy for GC in my opinion.
Stage 14: Mulhouse - Le Markstein
Not the hardest finishing climbs. The opening is perfect for a strong break to go up the road so I would say fiftyfifty break/GC. Nice Ben Healy stage. And the day after is very hard.
Stage 15: Champagne - Plateau de Solaison
Stage 5 of this years Tour de Suisse finish. Pogi demonstrated this is a perfect climb for him. GC day.
Stage 16: Evian Les Bains - Thonon Les Bains
Time Trial of 26 km. Remco territory.
Stage 17: Chambery - Voiron
Sprint (VI) but a hard opener could see a strong break up the road. Still a sprint the most likely.
Stage 18: Voiron - Orcieres-Merlette
Last chance for the break to go for the win. Finishing climb not hard enough for GC and the hilly start is perfect for the break.
Stage 19: Gap - Alpe d’Huez
The perfect day to go for KoM on Alpe d’Huez. Will the official record be broken by Pogacar?
Stage 20: Bourg d’Oissans - Alpe d’Huez
BIG day - over 5500 altitude meters. GC day or break? It depends on the standings. Big day for the polka dot jersey as well, with 3 HC categorised climbs.
Stage 21: Thoiry - Paris
La Butte de Montmarte is back again. But will Mathieu van der Poel be still in the race this time? Its perfect for him. The last time up crests with 6.1 km to go.
