Trump says he opposes communism, but seizes private businesses, surveils Americans, sends armed thugs door to door, and props up a socialist dictatorship in Venezuela.
My constituents fled communist countries. They've seen this playbook before.
@DanielDvdDiaz@EnriqueVasquez Completamente cierto.
Hermano, Internet no perdona. 👀 https://t.co/Rr43xJZk3s
Congress created TPS to keep people from being deported to extremely unsafe conditions. Earthquakes are the FIRST EXAMPLE LISTED in the law.
Despite two devastating earthquakes in Venezuela, Trump continues to rip status from law-abiding Venezuelans and send them into danger.
The immigration debate in the United States is completely out of touch with reality. On one hand, the most radical wing of President Trump’s MAGA base accuses him of “doing nothing” on immigration, argues that deportations are “far too low,” and calls for more radical action.
On the other hand, the majority of Hispanic voters perceive ICE policies as excessively aggressive and unnecessary. They support securing the border and deporting criminals, but they do not agree with the aggressive deployment of resources to pursue people who have overstayed their visas or are in similar situations, when they do not pose a threat to U.S. national security.
The Biden administration’s immigration policies were the worst in decades. They allowed millions of people to enter the country without proper vetting, and that was widely rejected by Hispanic voters. But now, on the other side, we have swung to the opposite extreme, and there does not appear to be any attempt to pursue a sensible immigration policy supported by the majority of the population.
The reality is that more than 70% of Americans support LEGAL immigration programs in the United States, and that means not destroying the legal pathways established by law to bring talent and workers into the country. Destroying legal immigration pathways and targeting people who are trying to navigate the complex U.S. immigration system is not something supported by the majority of the population.
On our side, we have always supported legal, safe, and orderly immigration. We want secure borders, we want safe streets, and we want criminals deported. But we also clearly want a modern, efficient, merit-based legal immigration system that allows people who love this country to come here and contribute while complying with the law.
Hopefully, Democrats will understand that the answer is not to let everyone into the United States, and hopefully Republicans will understand that the answer is not to deport everyone from the United States. The goal should be to find common ground where the majority of Americans are. The party that understands this the fastest will have a better chance of winning elections.
