This is no longer about Sonam Wangchuk or the Cockroach Janata Party. They may have provided the spark, but what we witnessed today was something far bigger: an organic outpouring of the collective anguish, helplessness, despair and anger of an entire generation that spent years screaming, only to be met with silence.
This is a generation that has watched the ruling class and its cronies retreat further into privilege and insulation, seemingly oblivious to the aspirations and anxieties of the world's largest youth population.
You can dismiss leaders. You can discredit movements. But ignoring the accumulated rage of an entire generation comes at a price.
Ignore it at your own peril.

For years, this administration played Sherlock Holmes, chasing “stolen money” of Rajapaksa’s with zero proof . Yet, while they were busy playing detective, they became the actual thieves of the people’s money.

In a matter of hours, the cost of their incompetence has surfaced:

$600k missing from Sri Lanka Post.
$2.5M siphoned from the Treasury by hackers.
Rs. 380M misdirected by the RDA, with Rs. 51M still unrecovered.
Rs. 13.2B looted from NDB and the Government and the Central Bank didn't detect a thing.

It seems the version of a "Clean Sri Lanka" is the total opposite of what the public expected.
Accusations are easy; governance is hard.
The issue is no longer politics it is trust, competence, and accountability.

And that is what is now in question.

During the presidential and parliamentary elections, I made it a point to closely evaluate the individuals the NPP was promoting as the future leadership of Sri Lanka. What I saw then was deeply concerning — a lot of noise, a lot of hype, but very little real substance. There was no meaningful track record, no proven competence, just exaggerated narratives.

Fast forward a year into governance — and those concerns have been validated again and again.

What we are witnessing today is not just incompetence. It’s a dangerous combination of inexperience, arrogance, and a refusal to take accountability. A “we know everything” attitude paired with childish defensiveness when things go wrong.

The recent $2.5 million treasury scam is a perfect example.

Look at the chaos:

The Finance Secretary says it was a hacking.
The Deputy Minister says it was not a hacking.
Another claims investigations only started two days ago.
Others admit it wasn’t even reported properly.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister is already declaring there’s “no corruption” — before the investigation is even complete.

Which version are we supposed to believe?

Even more alarming now we’re hearing that additional documents have gone missing.

This isn’t just mismanagement. This is systemic failure.

Sri Lanka doesn’t have the luxury of learning through trial and error at this level.

This is not about politics anymore. This is about competence, accountability, and the future of the country.

Right now, we are being governed by confusion, contradiction, and crisis.

We promised “system change”. We’re now experiencing “system failure”
