Great coaches don’t make you feel like your success depends on them. Great coaches give you the tools to empower you to ultimately become your own best coach.
Off-season work: self-talk. Think back to those situations where your performance was below (or far below) your expectations. What were you saying to yourself in those situations? Be honest. Then ask yourself if you would say the same things to a person you were coaching?
2/ Would you have responded well if one of your coaches had coached you that way? If the answer is no to either, you have some work to do on self-talk. I am not talking about flimsy positive talk. I am talking about coaching yourself like you would someone else.
