C/O 2029

Jayden Buie’s film shows an explosive player whose athletic ability is supported by a strong feel for how space develops. He has the speed to turn an opening into a big play, but he does not run as though every opening has to appear immediately. There is patience in the way he works with his blocking, particularly when a puller is leading the play. Buie controls his pace, stays close enough to use the block and keeps his feet active while reading the front side. That allows him to recognize a lane without committing to one before it forms. When the picture changes, his response is immediate. He can alter his track, get vertical and accelerate without an extra step to reset. The result is a runner who uses different tempos effectively. His finishing speed stands out, but his ability to stay in position as a play develops is what helps him reach open space.

Buie’s vision becomes more apparent when the first path is unavailable. He recognizes when defenders have outside leverage and understands the value of taking ground vertically rather than continuing toward the boundary. Once he is moving upfield, he can use his running track to affect pursuit. He presses a path long enough to get a defender committed, then cuts against that momentum. His change of direction is sudden, but the move is built on timing and an understanding of where the defender is headed. Buie does not need a wide lane to make an adjustment. His feet respond quickly in confined space, and he remains balanced to carry speed out of the cut. That combination of recognition, setup and movement gives him ways to create even when the defense has taken away the initial look.

The ability to keep processing after the first move is one of the more compelling parts of Buie’s game. He stays aware of the next defender, recovers his balance quickly in traffic and keeps his feet ready as pursuit closes from another direction. His open-field movement is connected rather than a collection of isolated cuts. He can make one defender commit without losing sight of the space or the threat beyond him. That awareness also carries into his work as a receiver. Buie catches the screen cleanly, secures the football and becomes a runner without pausing between those actions. Once the ball is in his hands, the same vision and change of direction appear. The receiving look does not require a separate explanation of his athletic ability; it reinforces how quickly he can process space and act on it.

Buie’s speed is evident in the explosive finishes, but the film also shows it under a very different demand. Following a red-zone turnover, he reacts immediately and pursues a returner who has roughly a 10-yard lead. With no angle to cut off the play, Buie has to close the distance from directly behind. He sustains the chase, gains ground and finishes a touchdown-saving tackle. That rep adds substance to the evaluation because there is no ball in his hands and no offensive opening to exploit. His reaction gets him into pursuit, while his speed and competitiveness keep him in the play until he can make the stop. It shows a player willing to finish a difficult play after it has turned against his team.

🗒️

Buie’s film is built on the connection between his athletic traits and his decisions. He can control his pace behind a developing block, recognize how defender leverage changes the available path and redirect without losing control of his feet. His vision remains active through traffic and after the catch, allowing him to respond to more than the first defender in front of him. The touchdown-saving pursuit adds a meaningful look at his effort and sustained speed without the ball. Buie is an explosive playmaker, but the strongest takeaway is how consistently his timing and awareness put that explosiveness to use.

ATHLETE DNA:

Maintains tempo and puller spacing
Processes front-side leverage in stride
Presses pursuit before triggering cutback
Re-anchors balance through successive cuts
Secures catch, transitions upfield immediately

Plenty to like here. Let's get into it.

⏱️ 0:00 — Puller Timing | Front Side Read | Breakaway Speed

There is a lot to take from this opening rep, starting with how he works with the blocking in front of him. The touchdown is the finish, but the patience that gets him into position is what makes this run work.
Now run it.

Watch the left guard pull. The back doesn’t try to get outside before the guard can clear the line. He stays close to the puller and controls his pace, keeping the block directly in front of him as the play develops.

That spacing is important. If he outruns the guard, he takes away his own read and gives the defense a clearer path to him. Instead, he stays connected to the block and keeps his options open.

Now pause it at 0:06.

Love this look. He’s directly behind the pulling guard. Watch how little space there is between them. He’s reading the front side leverage while staying close enough to react to the block, but he hasn’t committed his feet to a lane that may close.

Now look at the left tackle. The tackle creates the space, and the back recognizes it while he is still moving behind the puller. He doesn’t need to stop his feet to find the opening.

Now run it.

Once the left tackle creates space, he bounces outside in one decisive movement. Watch his feet. There’s no extra cut to gather himself, and he doesn’t drift toward the sideline looking for more room. He changes his track and gets vertical, which lets him carry his acceleration through the opening.

Pause it at 0:08.

Now look at No. 80. The safety has about seven yards of cushion and an angle toward the sideline. That makes this a strong test of the back’s finishing speed. No. 80 has a path to cut him off; he isn’t trying to recover from directly behind.

Run it.

The back beats that pursuit angle up the sideline for six. What stands out is how the traits work together. His patience keeps him behind the puller long enough to read the blocks, his decision to bounce comes as the left tackle creates space, and his direct running track preserves his speed. By the time No. 80 closes on the sideline, the back is already accelerating past the angle.

Impressive rep.

⏱️ Reel 2, 0:00 — Edge Burst | Cutback Timing | Open-Field Creativity

Film Link: https://t.co/VasGP1MMoW

He’s in the gun with three receivers to one side. This is a stretch run, and the defense gives him several decisions to make in a short space.

Now run it.

The edge defender starts with outside leverage. His initial burst gets him beyond that defender, but two defensive backs are still positioned farther outside. He puts his foot in the ground and gets north and south rather than continuing toward the boundary. That upfield cut gains yardage and changes the pursuit angles in front of him.
Pause it at 0:07.

The linebacker is flowing across the formation. He picks him up without turning his head or revealing the move he’s preparing. That shows peripheral vision. He can keep pressing upfield while tracking a defender closing from the side.

Now run it.

There’s the cutback. He holds that upfield path until the linebacker commits to it, then redirects across the pursuit angle. His feet respond immediately, and he comes through the change of direction balanced. The move has a purpose: he uses the defender’s momentum to open a new path.

His athletic ability is impressive for his age, especially the twitch in a confined area. He stays under control through the move and is ready to deal with the next defender.

Pause it again at 0:09.

His make-you-miss ability shows up again here. After cutting from the outside back in, he avoids another defender in traffic. The time between moves is what catches my attention. He recovers his balance quickly and keeps his feet active instead of getting stalled in the congestion.

Now run it.

He approaches the safety, carries his path long enough to get him leaning outside, and immediately cuts against that lean. There’s a feel for leverage in the open field here. He recognizes which way the safety has committed and uses his footwork to take the space on the other side.

His ability to create after the initial path changes keeps showing up on film. He wins the first angle with his burst, then processes the next defender without losing control of his feet. The cutback, the second move in traffic, and the way he gets the safety leaning outside show a player who can create in space as defenders commit. His explosiveness produces the big plays, but his awareness and quick decisions are what make those plays possible.

⏱️ Reel 2, 0:13 — Pursuit Effort | Recovery Speed

I wanted to get this rep in here because you learn something about a player when the play goes wrong. Watch his competitiveness and how he plays through the whistle. They’re in the red zone, with the handoff going right.

Now run it.

The exchange is off and the ball comes loose. He recognizes the fumble right away, turns out of the run action, and transitions into pursuit as the defender recovers it and breaks the other way.

Pause it there.
The returner has about 10 yards on him, and he’s chasing from directly behind. There’s no angle for him to cut off. He has to close that gap with his speed.

Now run it.

Watch him accelerate through the chase and continue gaining ground downfield. He doesn’t shut it down once the returner gets into open space. He catches him from behind and finishes the tackle before the end zone.

That’s a touchdown-saving stop after a red-zone turnover. His reaction gets him into pursuit quickly, and his sustained speed lets him erase a 10-yard lead. The effort matters because he stays in the play long enough to turn it into a stop. Love to see it.

⏱️ Instagram Clip — WR Screen | Catch-to-Run Transition | Open-Field Movement

Film Link: https://t.co/sFbpMqjE0K

He’s the target on the WR screen. Watch the catch first: soft hands, brings the ball in cleanly, and secures it before turning upfield.

Now run it.

Love how quickly he gets into the run after the catch. He takes the ball across the formation and through the second level without a pause between securing it and accelerating. That transition matters on a screen. The ball has to be put away, but he can’t afford to spend extra steps doing it while the defense closes.

He presses upfield, sees the defender coming from the far side, and cuts back toward the near sideline. He’s still carrying speed out of the cut, then opens up and finishes it for six.

The value in this rep starts at the catch point. He handles the ball cleanly and immediately becomes a runner, giving himself room to make the move that springs the touchdown. A great all-around player.

📖

There is a lot to like about Jayden’s game with the ball in his hands. He is an explosive playmaker, but what gives the speed value is how quickly he processes the space around him. He can stay patient while a block develops, recognize when the opening changes, and accelerate without taking extra steps to reset. That combination shows up on two different runs: one where he stays connected to the puller, and another where he gets vertical before timing the cutback against pursuit.

From a traits standpoint, his initial burst, quick feet, short-area twitch, balance, and finishing speed are all on film. He shows control at different tempos. He can wait behind a block without letting his feet stall, then make a sudden move and carry speed out of it. In the open field, he remains aware of the next defender after beating the first one. That ability to keep making decisions while moving is a big part of what makes him difficult to bring down.

The screen adds a receiving element to the evaluation. Jayden handles the catch cleanly, secures the ball, and gets into the run immediately. The chase-down rep gives another look at his speed, this time without the ball. He recognizes the turnover and closes a 10-yard gap from directly behind to prevent a touchdown. That is a strong example of effort and competitiveness showing up in the middle of a difficult play.

Across these reps, the consistent trait is how quickly Jayden turns what he sees into movement. His vision and decisions put him in position to use his athletic ability, whether he’s following a block, changing direction in traffic, or running after the catch. The explosive finishes get your attention. The processing behind them is what makes this film worth a closer look.

I was grateful for the opportunity to play and felt like we made the most of it in the short amount of time I was given. The kick off team gave us a great opportunity with recovering an onside kick after the first TD to set up the next series and another TD. We scored 2 times in 38 seconds. Season stats 14 passing TDs 954 yds passing 3-2 point conversions in 8 quarters of play. I am thankful for my teammates for giving me the time to throw and the receivers making fantastic catches.
