Wild hogs learn from one bad moment. A hog that watches a gate slam shut on its family will basically never walk into a trap again, for the rest of its life. Trappers have a name for these animals. Educated hogs.

So picture the amateur version. You've got 20 hogs tearing up your land, you trigger the gate early and catch 15. Feels like a win. Except those 5 survivors just got a free lesson, and they breed fast. Sows are ready to reproduce at six months old and throw two litters a year. Within about a year you're back to a full herd, only now every animal in it knows what a trap looks like.

You turned a hog problem into an unsolvable hog problem.

The numbers are why this matters so much. Biologists estimate you have to remove 60 to 70% of a local hog population every single year just to keep it from growing. Hunting them gets you maybe 25%. The only approach that actually works is called whole sounder removal. Bait a big corral, wire the gate open, and let the whole family group get comfortable eating inside for days while cameras count heads. The moment the last one walks in, you drop the gate remotely on all of them at once.

The gate took one second. The five days of doing nothing was the skill.
