In South Africa, 70-year-old farmer Christoffel Stoman was brought to trial after deliberately running over Khwezi Jantijies, a six-year-old boy, for picking up an orange. That day, the child was walking with his mother, Magdalene Jantijies, toward town to do some shopping. According to testimony, the boy picked up an orange that had fallen on the ground near a farm property and then tried to take another fruit that was also on the ground but on the other side of a fence. That was when Stoman appeared, driving a vehicle with a trailer. The child did not pick fruit from a tree. He only picked up an orange that had already fallen. Even so, the man drove his vehicle directly toward the boy and his mother, causing the child to suffer fractures in both legs. What has sparked the most outrage is that during questioning, the accused stated that he โwould do it again.โ

@dblcheeseburger@geekyjenise First off, my country's flag is in my name dick head
Second Trinidad is in the Caribbean, and between 50% to 70% of the Caribbean regionโs population is Black a lot of whom were brought here through the transatlantic slave just like black americans.
@geekyjenise Reparations arenโt about โowing individuals.โ Itโs about governments acknowledging crimes and repairing generational harm, the same way Japanese Americans, Indigenous nations, and Holocaust victims were compensated.
Forgiveness is biblicalโbut God also commands justice
@geekyjenise The Barbary slave trade wasnโt worse, and it didnโt create a global system that justified racism for generations. Black people never received true justice no land, no wealth restoration, no reparations, yet the damage built the foundation of the Western economy
