Corrupt officials steal from the people.
Irresponsible citizens destroy the country we all share.

AETAS, FARMERS STAND VS PAX SILICA

Leaders of the Sapang Kawayan Aeta community and farmers hold a press conference on Thursday to voice their opposition against the controversial Pax Silica hub project, which is proposed to be constructed in New Clark City, Tarlac.

According to the leaders, they have documents which show their claim over the ancestral lands, which will also be part of a signature campaign opposing the initiative.

ICYMI: Approximately 92 farmers in Barangay O’Donell, Capas, Tarlac may face loss of livelihood as the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) proceeds with the development of the Pax Silica hub.

According to Barangay Captain Wendelle Mercado, a notice to vacate has already been issued to several farmers. However, affected farmers have expressed concerns about potential displacement and job loss resulting from the project.

In a statement, BCDA President and CEO Joshua Bingcang asserted that the agency owns the land covered by the project with proper title to account for. Hectares of arable land are projected to be converted to an industrial zone.

As of writing, concrete roads have replaced portions of land to make way for the project. Sitio Leader Bonifacio Corpuz said that BCDA had paid a few farmers Php 30 pesos per square meter in return.

Notably, no public consultations through the barangay council have been initiated by the BCDA. The local community has yet to be informed about relocation plans, compensation, and support they will receive in the aftermath.
