Today, media is awash with a leaked letter of the resignation of the chairperson of the Uganda human rights commission. The resignation leaks just hours after CEHURD shared a formal letter of concern at her office on Friday 10th July regarding her public stigmatization of people living with HIV.
In CEHURD’s letter, we called upon the outgoing chairperson to retract those stigmatizing remarks and reminding her of the landmark ruling in CEHURD v. Pastor Ssempa (EOC/CR/123/2019), where the Equal Opportunities Commission Tribunal ruled that disparaging people living with HIV violates Articles 21 and 24 of Uganda’s Constitution. The Tribunal held that stigma against people living with HIV/AIDS undermines Uganda’s entire effort to fight the epidemic.
As the Chairperson who heads Uganda’s foremost human rights institution steps down, this moment is a powerful reminder that no public official, should be allowed to use their platform to shame or stigmatize people living with HIV. The letter we prepared stands as a record that civil society will always hold those in power accountable.
Every day, millions of children across Africa wake up and navigate challenges they did not create. Walking long distances to school, overcoming barriers to healthcare, enduring poverty, conflict, discrimination, and inequality, while still daring to dream, learn, laugh, and hope. Their resilience is remarkable, but it should never be a substitute for justice.
As we commemorate the #DayOfTheAfricanChild, CEHURD honors the courage, strength, and determination of children across the continent. We recognize that every child deserves not only admiration for their resilience, but systems that protect their rights, safeguard their health, nurture their potential, and allow them to thrive.
Our call to action today is for governments, institutions, communities, and all duty bearers to confront the barriers that continue to deny children the opportunities they deserve. Let us build an Africa where children are not celebrated for overcoming hardship, but for realizing their full potential in environments that uphold their dignity, health, safety, and well-being. Their voices, rights and lives matter.
❝The oath that doctors take has made us prisoners of our own profession. The five-year course is already too long for parents to sustain, and extending it by another year without facilitation is unfair and a violation of human rights. Stakeholders must be listened to when addressing this matter. We should push for a parliamentary act to establish a permanent policy that safeguards the future of interns. My first priority should be the life of my patients, I should not be attending to them while worrying about food, accommodation, or transport.❞

I'm tired of paying for what I don't consume. I just can't believe that while one is in the middle of the city your network connection is poor and inaccessible! What exactly am I dealing with here?
@Airtel_Ug good evening!
I am honestly annoyed at you people. What exactly is wrong with your network? Your network connection is extremely poor. Moreover here in Kampala, what will happen when I travel to Yumbe?! My data bundles expire without utilizing them yet I pay.

THE AWAKENING.
Since when do we hold our clients captive?
