Edwin Sifuna seems to have mistaken the Senate, the courts, public rallies, media interviews and constitutional debates for a full-time classroom.

Everywhere he goes, there is a lesson to be taught about governance, devolution, accountability and the duty of elected leaders to serve the people.

The sarcasm of it all is that some politicians occupy public offices for years and still need reminders about what those offices are meant to achieve.

Meanwhile, Kenyans are left wondering whether leadership is about holding a title or understanding the responsibilities attached to it.

Here is the real lesson: leadership is not measured by the number of times you appear before a camera, but by how effectively you defend the Constitution, hold power accountable and stand up for the ordinary citizen.

The presidency is not a ceremonial trophy. It demands intellectual discipline, constitutional understanding, policy direction and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of citizens.

Anyone aspiring to State House must be subjected to that standard, not merely judged by political slogans or crowd sizes.

Kenyans must therefore think critically about the kind of leadership they want in 2027. Examine the records, interrogate the ideas and demand accountability from everyone seeking public office.

Our future depends on the choices we make and the standards we are willing to uphold.

A country cannot rise above the quality of leadership it chooses to tolerate.
