I really don’t understand this vibe.

I get along with and enjoy probably over 90% of the LDS folks on Twitter.

Maybe I’m just thick skinned. 🤷‍♂️ I’m just not easily offended, and I’ve just accepted that *everyone* on Twitter is more harsh and rude than they are in person. I don’t really care much about those kinds of comments. I just don’t let them get to me.

If anything I find the LDS crowd on here to be the most tolerable and most interesting crowd to talk to. They’re the most willing to apologize when things go south in an argument (which is HUGE) and they seem to be the most willing to be swung on difficult or contentious topics when evidence is provided. They’re educated. They have diverse, interesting, and often very deep perspectives.

And regarding voicing concerns, I feel like there are plenty of avenues for voicing concerns in the church that are very valid and effective, and all of them are private. I’ve never felt like my voice and my concerns don’t matter to my bishop or church leaders. Maybe part of why I feel that way is because I’m also willing to concede when I’m wrong, and I go in with an open mind, willing to learn.

In any case, I never seem to feel like I need to go out and start complaining about church leaders on public platforms in order to “make a difference” in church culture. The church is in God’s hands, despite flawed individuals who carry out His will.

I think most church members are right to not be in favor of backbiting and speaking against leadership in public places. It’s called murmuring. I think some view this as “stifling their voice or opinion,” but it’s actually a sign of loyalty, and a willingness to hold up those who we have committed to sustain.

Regarding self righteousness, I seem to always hear that criticism when people are wrong about something (or someone else is convinced they’re right) and bitter about it.

“Rebuke a wise man and he will love thee” comes to mind. I think sometimes we assume this wisdom in other members, and find it’s not actually there, so things that are intended to help correct others get misconstrued as self-righteousness by those who are overly sensitive and overcome by their own guilty consciences.

Just my two cents. I love LDX. Even some of the democrats, believe it or not 😉

Let’s not be easily offended. Instead let’s assume the best in each other and try to learn from each other. Hope you all have a wonderful day! 🙏
