Yes, it is safe to charge your phone with a Type-C laptop charger so far it is a certified USB-C Power Delivery (USB-PD) charger.

I will explain briefly.

Why is it safe?

Modern phones and modern laptop chargers follow USB Power Delivery (USB-PD).

USB-PD is a smart protocol that negotiates power before voltage is applied.

What does this mean?

The charger will offer power profiles (5V 9V, 15V, 20V and the likes)

The phone will choose only what it can accept. No more, no less.

The charger will never force high voltage into the phone.

This means that even if your laptop charger is 100W, your phone may only draw 15W, 25W, or 45W depending on its charging protocol limit.

So, you can rest assured there is zero danger of overloading.

What is the Physics Behind It?

1. Ohm’s Law & Power Negotiation

A phone is an active load. It can say “I want 9V at 3A”.
The charger can respond: “Okay, here you go.”

If the phone does not request higher voltage, the charger stays at 5V default which is generally safe.

Energy flow is pull-based, not push-based.

2. Built-in Safety Circuits

Modern Phones have :

a. Charge controller IC

b. Thermal protection

c. Over-current protection

d. Over-voltage protection

Chargers also have:
