Part of what the EPA does is create an avenue for those hurt by corporate actions to find recourse. They also investigate when foul play is suspected.

It loses all value if they collectively decide to forgo it, because it's value is only in its ability to verify the individual is who they say they are (and a well known individual sells that image to more people)
