BREAKING: Chris Wallace just completely demolished Donald Trump’s debate performance. Wallace went so far as to call Donald Trump’s debate performance tonight the worst debate performance in American history. Retweet to make sure all Americans see this
My wife and I are watching TWW all the way through for probably the tenth time… and I always have to replay this bit of brilliant writing by @BradleyWhitford. How he put these words into the mouth of his friend, @JoshMalina… genius.
@EBjorseth @saraMc4change @IowaSenate I have yet to hear exactly how our schools are failing. Failing to teach republican morality? Graduation rates have been above 90% statewide for over a decade, and higher now than 10 years ago, and dropout rate is below 3%, lower that 10 years ago.
@DustinGustoff @IowaSenate To your observation, the arts are curricular, and are funded through building instructional funds. Sports are extracurricular, and (you are correct) are supported by ticket sales, sponsorships, and other non curricular $$.
@DustinGustoff @IowaSenate Local decisions regarding allotment of curricular funds varies from school to school. Smaller districts with little money to spread around will focus on “core” subjects (that said, the arts are in the core) and the arts get pinched. This proposal will hurt arts even more.
@DustinGustoff @IowaSenate But that’s not happening to a degree that warrants wholesale state funding. There are always going to be people who want something else for their kids, and there are options. This is a cash grab.

That’s the real problem we must tackle… getting more of EVERYBODY into the music room. With fewer non-white students in school music programs, there will be even fewer continuing to play and major in music after high school and fewer yet to choose the professional route.
Sadly, this doesn’t surprise me. That said, this article misses the mark: the vast majority of our public school instrumental programs are not a reflection of our student bodies.
