It's the most important team in a program. Middle school has to develop athletes, but also win them back! Youth football, and youth sports in general are killing sports. Kids are burnt out, and a MS Coach's first job is winning Kids back and keeping them in the program.
It blows my mind how many HS FB programs just throw anybody out there to coach their middle school team and wonder why their HS FB program isn't succeeding. You just allowed your athletes to lose 2 years of development. Middle School programs matter!
@CJSouth_21@ultrasofgary Welcome to Cincinnati sports, man. They are the worst. The coaches are always bad according to these people. No matter the sport, no matter the results. The coaches always suck for Cincinnati Sports fans. Because none of them understand anything about coaching or sports at all.
@CoachDottavio@Coach_Rowland_@Coach_Burrell1 I agree. I'm not anti-Wing T. It's never what I will run, personally, but on paper, I'm good with it. I'm good with stealing concepts from the Wing T. But I'm also sick of Wing-T coaches acting like it's the only pure form of football that can work. Just run what works for you.
It IS a Head Coaches job to help a player get recruited. It is also our job to make sure those not being recruited have a plan (trade school, college, military, etc.)
Donβt talk about caring about your kidsβ¦actually care.
A run first/establish the run type of offense is overrated. Learn the art of passing the ball.
βWe donβt have those type of kidsβ comment is also something coaches say cause theyβre either lazy or donβt know how to properly teach QBs and passing game.
@Coach_Burrell1@ParkerBlake60 Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Times a thousand! There are a billion ways to win a football game. You didn't find the holy grail just because you took 1-9 talent to 6-4. An Air Raid guy would also take 1-9 talent and could go 6-4. Just do what works for you, and you can sell.
The WingT isn't a great scheme fit for every program no matter how much diehards want to act like it is. Plenty of programs are ruined with run heavy offenses every year but its fun to pretend that "run the damn ball" is chiseled on the original 10 commandments.
The amount of preparation that it takes just to get the right guys on the field, more full-roster management than O or D, dealing with injuries, making adjustments on the fly, and part of every game-management decision. Love Special Teams!
@_coachevans I've seen the Flexbone win games with lesser talent. I've also seen the air raid win games with lesser talent. I've seen both of those systems lose games with greater talent. Do what works for you! But sell it to the kids and the community. That IS part of the job!
@_coachevans There are a billion ways to win a football game. Do what works for you. But these guys need to stop pretending that the system is what raises talent.
I was a part of a staff where we ran a more modern offense, then switched to the Wing-T and had the worst season in 4 years.
@LoganMcpherson6 That we did! It had its moments. Sometimes, it felt like we were shoveling water out of a sinking boat with a spoon. But it's those moments that teach a person whether they are really cut out for it or not. Wouldn't go back and trade my 3 years coaching JH for anything.
Hot take from 21 years on the line: your kids aren't ignoring the scout report because they're lazy. They're ignoring it because it's a stapled packet and they live on a 6-inch screen. Meet them where they are, and they'll surprise you
Bad TV shows used to get 20+ episodes to try and get into a groove, the bad ones!
Now, we get these shows, and many of them are great, but we get only 8-12 episodes and don't get any more for 2+ years.
It's why many streaming services have not followed Netflix's lead and are releasing episodes weekly. They still have their problems. They still only release 8-12 episodes and have long wait times between seasons. But it is still way better than the Netflix model.....
