🚨 Important GST E-Way Bill Update | Effective from 15 June 2026

GSTN has introduced major enhancements in the E-Way Bill (EWB) system.

✅ 1. Mandatory “Ship-To GSTIN” in Bill-To / Ship-To Transactions

• In Bill-To / Ship-To cases, “Ship-To GSTIN” will now be mandatory while generating EWB.
• If the actual consignee is unregistered, enter “URP” in the Ship-To GSTIN field.

✅ 2. New Voluntary E-Way Bill Closure Facility
After delivery of goods, EWB can now be voluntarily closed by:

• Supplier
• Recipient
• Transporter
• Driver / Authorized Person (through registered mobile number)

✅ 3. Closure Options Available

EWB can be closed using:
• E-Way Bill Number
• Date-wise search
• Mobile-number based access

✅ 4. Time Limit for Closure

Closure can be done:

• On the date of delivery, or
• On the immediately succeeding day

✅ 5. Mobile Number Based Closure

• Mobile number can now be tagged for EWB closure.
• All linked EWBs will be visible through that mobile number for easy closure workflow.

✅ 6. Important for ERP / Tally / API Users
• GSTN Sandbox APIs already updated.
• Production rollout scheduled by 15 June 2026.
• ERP / Tally / GSP / ASP systems should be updated immediately.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has decided to extend the due date of furnishing of Return of Income under sub-Section (1) of Section 139 of the Act for the Assessment Year 2025-26, which is 31st October 2025 in the case of assessees referred in clause (a) of Explanation 2 to sub-Section (1) of Section 139 of the Act, to 10th December 2025.

The 'specified date' of furnishing of the report of audit under the provisions of the Income-tax Act, 1961, for the Previous Year 2024-25 (Assessment Year 2025-26) is further extended to 10th November 2025.

Income-tax Department appreciates taxpayers and tax professionals for making compliances in time, leading to a record surge in filing of Income-tax Returns (ITRs).

Here are some highlights:
👉More than 6.77 crore ITRs for AY 2023-24 filed till 31st July, 2023, 16.1% more than the ITRs filed in the corresponding period last year.
👉Over 64.33 lakh ITRs filed on a single day i.e., on 31st July, 2023.
👉Around 53.67 lakh ITRs filed by first-time filers, a fair indication of widening of tax base.
👉5.63 crore returns e-verified. Of the e-verified ITRs, 3.44 crore ITRs processed (61%) by 31st July, 2023.
👉Over 32 crore successful logins on the e-filing portal (01.07.23 to 31.07.23). 2.74 crore successful logins on 31st July itself.
👉Over 1.26 crore challans received through TIN 2.0 payment system in July itself.
👉The e-filing Helpdesk handled more than 5 lakh queries in July itself.
