Hey #AcademicTwitter. I've been very quiet on here lately. Last post was about a month ago coincidentally, but I haven't been quiet on social media. In fact, I've been very active on both Instagram and Threads. In all likelihood, I won't be active on Twitter moving forward.
I've completed my first project on Visme and just about to start my second. One thing I'll say about the design templates, they seem very professional and well made. Some other services offer much more colourful and playful templates, but I prefer Visme's maturity for now.
Anybody familiar with Visme? It's a modern presentation and design tool similar to Canva. It was introduced to me a few weeks ago and I'm lucky to have been gifted a Premium account for a few months to try it out. I'll share my thoughts about this tool over the next few months.
I like being able to save a selection of components as "Blocks" for future use so I won't have to recreate the same thing again in future projects. Here I saved a Block with my photo, my website, and logos of the social networks I'm active on to be used in future projects.
@MyriamCMcKenna I was in your shoes almost a year ago. It is extremely exciting but also anxiety-inducing. It does get better over time. Hope it went well!
If your feed has been looking a little different lately, this could explain why.
I still post on Twitter occasionally, but to be honest I'm enjoying Threads a lot more. I post more often there, and Instagram as well.

The pandemic has opened to door to more online activities like meetings, webinars, presentations etc. I was invited to give a webinar so I decided to invest in a proper webcam. Will also be useful for my online tutoring, future conferences, webinars, and meetings as well.
Students often look at examiners as obstacles to their progress. None more so perhaps than PhD viva examiners. But you can look at them as potential future collaborators.
I got in touch with one of my external examiners for a potential collaboration. This is part of his reply.
The first year students have completed their final exams (three papers in three days). And with that, my first cycle of teaching has ended. Quite surreal that my first teaching cycle has already ended. Feels like it only just begun.
