If someone says "this sandwich tastes like shit" it means it tastes bad, but by your standard, it means it actually tastes like shit. That's what was said after all

You can say someone is the worst, and that doesn't mean you believe they're worst than Hitler. Again the person said moving sucks, but didn't really mean it's the worst.

Then it's clearly a case of pancakes and waffles because the original comment was not really about all the bad days ever, but about how it was a really bad day.
