Robam Trot (Trot Dance) is a traditional dance that originated in the rural, farming communities of Cambodia. Today, it is well-known in Siem Reap province and some surrounding areas.
The word "Trot" is derived from Sanskrit, meaning "to cut across" or "to sever." People generally perform this dance during the Khmer New Year to mark the transition and cut off the old year to welcome the new one, as well as to drive away misfortune and bring in good luck and prosperity.
Additionally, when the country faces severe drought, the Trot dance is also performed to pray for rain. Furthermore, playing Trot serves another crucial role: fundraising through donations to build and repair public achievements within the community, especially in Buddhist monasteries, rather than for personal benefit.
