Genesis 3:15 is known as the Protoevangelium, or the "first gospel." Amidst the fall, God provides the first glimmer of the coming Redeemer. It establishes the trajectory of the whole Bible: a promised Seed who would be bruised in order to crush the head of the serpent.
In the New Testament, identity is not grounded in personal achievement or self-definition but in union with Christ. The believer’s life, status, and future are all shaped by what God has done in and through His Son.
The Old Testament is not a random collection of ancient religious writings. It is law, history, poetry, wisdom, and prophecy, each genre doing different work in the same unfolding story. Knowing what kind of book you are reading is the first step to reading it well.
The Old Testament prophets did not speak into a vacuum. Each one had a specific audience, a specific king, and a specific crisis. Elijah confronted Ahab. Jeremiah watched Jerusalem fall. Ezekiel and Daniel ministered to exiles in Babylon. Knowing when a prophet spoke and to whom transforms how you read their words.
