The Reality of NATO and European Security
The assumptions in that post are fundamentally flawed for three main reasons:
NATO is more than one person: NATO is a legal treaty involving 32 nations. Even if a US President is reluctant, the military integration, intelligence sharing, and Article 5 obligations are embedded in international law and US Congressional oversight.
Europe is arming up: The idea that Europe is "doing nothing" is outdated. Since 2022, European nations have seen the largest increase in defense spending in decades. Poland, the Baltics, and the Nordic countries (now including Finland and Sweden) have created a massive "wall" of defense that doesn't rely solely on the US.
Strategic Interests: The US doesn't stay in NATO just to be "nice" they do it because a stable Europe is vital for the US economy and global influence. Abandoning the Baltics would end the US's status as a superpower, regardless of who is in the White House.
