Shared racial identity does not automatically mean shared values, political interests, or collective consciousness. I’d much rather engage politically with a white person who understands the issues and recognizes what’s at stake than blindly align myself with someone simply because they’re a person of color. Being marginalized doesn’t automatically make you politically informed, empathetic, or committed to the liberation of others.
