#THELIE - Music is my way of processing my thoughts & experiences. It allows me to take a look at myself & world from a unique perspective, as both principal & narrator, & I’ve used it to tell some really difficult, true stories.

“THE LIE” started out as an album called “RAPPER.” I wanted to tell & exaggerated tale, & for once feel like I fit into this product driven, industrial Rap culture that defines success in ways steeped in contradiction to the point of borderline hypocrisy. In my early days I performed at “industry mixers” & judges or guest A&R’s would always say the same thing:

“You’re really talented but this industry isn’t built for people like you or your story. It’s too real to sell with what is popular right now. Your demographic doesn’t spend money. Would have been crazy in the 90s though.”

This album became “THE LIE” when I got tired of feeling like nobody wanted to hear the truth, as I often found out through conversations at shows, & on social media via comments & DMs. Apparently, my audience is seen as a minority because we aren’t looking for an escape.

We’re looking for a way through.

Sleaze’s passing was something that changed everything for me & my guys in ways I still don’t have words for. In a lot of ways, I became worse & my inner darkness started to express itself more frequently. The person I saw in the mirror that I already had a hard enough time recognizing became unsettlingly familiar.

My thoughts were being expressed through acts, telling these stories all week has really reminded me how well I hid things in my work and music.

And then came Dorian Gray, the concept for the albums presentation & this video, which was the 4th and final video we released. A window within a world that was a world within a window, where no matter which side I was on one thing was true:

The MADNESS never stopped, I had just kept going.
