Everyone’s talking about the solar eclipse, but no one is talking about this convergence of cicadas! Yeah, eclipses are amazing, but not “once in every 221 years” level of amazing. https://t.co/HbAbQHWGcO .

I am creating a seminar to prepare undergraduate students for graduate school and I would greatly appreciate a variety of thoughts and perspectives.

Fellow Academics/Scientists/Scholars, what advice would you give to your younger self to prepare and apply for grad. school? And what qualities/experience are you looking for in a grad. student? #ScienceTwitter #AcademicChatter #HigherEd

@BrookeWeigel For research statement, mine is about 2.5 pages, so maybe it’s not concise, but for me it’s challenging to have research history, trajectory, how I involve students, and funding avenues in just 1 page. I think asking the search chair is also a good idea

[Dr. Christian Commander @JediEcologist]

@BrookeWeigel My teaching philosophy is 1 page, but I usually also add a 1/2 page section about incorporating current research based teaching practices to improve student outcomes and a 1/4 page about teaching interests tailored to the school. And label the whole thing “teaching statement”

Thanks everyone!!

What an incredible year: I adventured across Ireland, Scotland, and England with @MarineBethology ; made new friends; walked along ancient natural and man-made structures; hiked beneath a cathedral of 1000 year old giants; and so much more. Looking forward to 2023!

What we experienced on the road in the Pacific Northwest ice storm last night was some The Day After Tomorrow level stuff. Complete chaos. Stay safe everyone!!
