Accounts like this really are the worst. This guy essentially copied and pasted a @reason article, took the art we made, added "#BREAKING" and passed it off as his own work. The grifting is constant. Don't you have *any* shame? How are you not embarrassed?
I get it. People love talking about presidential rankings. But all of the commentary about who was left out, who ranked higher than whom, is a distraction from the fact that the sitting president — during a war, in the lead up to the midterms, during a period of great anxiety — is casually posting about how he’s the greatest president ever. I get that defenders think it’s brilliant because it’s trolling. That’s pathetic in its own right. But a president trolling about how awesome he is when his approval rating is in the low 30s isn’t smart, clever, or wise. It’s sad and disturbing.
Former Vice President Mike Pence says he's "heartened" to hear that former CIA Officer Julia Curlee - a trans woman who served as his daily briefer during the first Trump term - said that he treated her with "great dignity."
BASH: "I spoke to her earlier this week, and she said despite your different views, you treated her with "great dignity," and a big moment for her in her life was you telling her mother that you must be very proud of your daughter. What was your reaction to hearing her say that?"
PENCE: "I appreciate the kind words ... My conservative values are fairly well-known, but maybe some people didn't quite know that among our Christian values is — my wife and I believe in treating others the way that we'd like to be treated, with decency and respect. And I was heartened to hear Julia reflect that that was the experience that took place in our office."
A 2024 paper went massively viral for claiming that COVID-19 vaccines caused lots of excess deaths. I complained to the journal about it at the time.
It was recently retracted. What went wrong and why did it take so long?

This is starting to feel like an episode of Yes, Minister.
President:
“I want the island moved forward. It will look much better.”
Admiral:
“An excellent and characteristically decisive proposal, Mr President.”
President:
“So you’ll do it?”
Admiral:
“Certainly. We have already initiated a comprehensive interdepartmental feasibility assessment.”
President:
“How long will that take?”
Admiral:
“The preliminary study should be completed shortly before the detailed study can begin.”
President:
“And when can you move the island?”
Admiral:
“That will depend on the findings of the independent review of the preliminary assessment.”
Then establish:
— A flight-deck operations working group
— An airflow and turbulence study
— A stability and weight assessment
— A cost-benefit analysis
— An environmental impact review
— A flight-safety risk assessment
— A congressional report on industrial capacity
— A comparative study with the Nimitz class
Two years later, the report concludes that moving the island is:
“Technically achievable, subject to substantial further analysis.”
Civil-service English for:
It is a completely insane idea, and we intend to wait until you are gone.
Sir Humphrey would call it a courageous decision. 😎⚓

Flock allegedly spotted this Colorado woman's truck around the time and location of a package theft.
What ensued was a Kafkaesque scene in which she insisted it wasn't her, while an officer who came to her door said he had indisputable proof—but refused to show her unless she admitted she stole the package.
"It is her, it is 100 percent, it is locked in, there is zero doubt," he tells her.
But police dropped the case after she provided her cellphone tracking data, camera footage from her truck, and video placing her elsewhere at the time of the theft

@JoseSmelteapbj@esjesjesj@ProjectLiberal Yeah, I think we fucked up teaching that all sorts of Isms are bad without mentioning it's the authoritarianism that allows them to be that bad.
"If someone adapted Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and completely reimagined the nationality, appearance, or traditional portrayal of several iconic characters"
If? IF???
Someone has never watched Baz Luhrmann!
The anniversary of the Butler shooting is Monday, so I wrote about how conspiracy theories that Trump staged his own assassination attempts have turned into the new JFK. Even if you think the whole thing was fake, I hope you'll give this a read.

Frustrating that people still propagate this myth.
The average includes infant and child mortality. For those who survived the early years, average life expectancy was 60 to 70. 20 was definitely not considered "middle aged" 😅
The Trump administration appears to be wiping pages from the Dept. of Energy's site that instruct people to set their thermostats to 78 degrees during warmer days...just as Zohran Mamdani did.
What is a socialist?
The problem is there are 87 different varieties of socialism, and you need to zero in on what each person means by the word!
Even back in Marx's day, there were different kinds of socialists. Utopians (Fourier), anarchists (Proudhon, Bakunin), Blanquists, Marxists, and many others!
Gradually, Marx's ideology of socialism (proletarian revolution) came to dominate some socialist parties (especially the Germans and Russians). Both the Russians and the Germans called themselves "Social Democrats," and at that time this meant "Marxist" (though there were other, non-Marxist socialist parties, like the Russian Socialist Revolutionaries).
In the late 19th century, however, a major split among Social Democrats emerged, between the hard-core revolutionaries (Lenin) and the more moderate revisionists (Bernstein). The revisionists argued that maybe workers' lives could be improved by democratic means, not through revolution. Lenin hated the revisionists! Partly because, by 1905, it was no longer clear if "Social Democrat" necessarily meant "Marxist."
The 1917 Russian Revolution split the Social Democrats. Lenin renamed his party "the Communist Party" in order to make it clear his boys weren't wimpy revisionists. In reaction, Social Democratic parties in Europe also split. Some took the new "Communist" name (which was just recycling language used by previous socialists, including Marx), while others kept the Social Democratic label, which now only paid occasional lip service to Marxism.
While the Communist Parties followed Moscow's lead, the other European Social Democratic parties continued to moderate, especially after World War 2. They became completely mainstream and embraced capitalism (with proper safeguards and a healthy social safety net).
So, when someone calls themselves a "Social Democrat," do they mean today's Swedish-style social democrat, who supports capitalism with a strong social safety net? Or are they harking back to the pre-split Russian and German Social Democrats, who embraced Marx's ideas?
A lot of Americans, on both left and right, are unfamiliar with this history. The result is that righties often call anything the least bit liberal "communism," while non-Marxist progressives say, "What's wrong with being a social democrat? I believe in a social safety net!" Without realizing that some leftists mean something much more extreme by that label.
The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) has used some fairly radical language, which makes me think some of them are definitely hearing Marx's words echoing in their ears. Darializa Avila Chevalier's praise of communist ideas in her deleted Twitter account makes me wonder if she's the Marxist (bad) kind of Social Democrat! But I think others, like Mamdani, seem far less hardcore. I really don't think he's a Marxist.
And keep in mind, young people tend to spew a lot on social media. What someone posted in 2021 to shock their elders or seem cool to their fellows is not necessarily what they believe when faced with the cold, hard realities of governing in 2026.

I think people have lost the will to try fact-check this guy due to the volume of lies he spreads.
Also it's actually pretty difficult with this image and quite time consuming.
It just happens I had nothing better to do. /1
There are a few things that I look back on as my mistakes in the early days.
Quake was overly ambitious technically. We could have done all the great multiplayer and modding work inside a Doom++ engine, allowing the designers to work with a more stable base instead of rug-pulling everything out from underneath them a couple times. The follow up game could have then brought in full 6DOF environments and characters.
I pushed everyone too hard. I didn’t appreciate how maturing companies need more slack, and that running people at startup intensity constantly will wear them out. Quake was also where I really had to accept my personal limits. I was working pretty much as hard as humanly possible, and I was still slipping past my goal points.
On all of the founders’ shoulders, our original corporate stock arrangement and buy/sell agreement was a mistake, and resulted in bad incentives. We wanted to ensure that all ownership rested in the hands of people working hard on current projects, but the Silicon Valley standard approach of vesting stock would have worked out better.
One real problem that I don’t accept the blame for is that we were insisting that level designers be not just game designers, but also have strong visual design esthetics. They needed to make things that not only played well, but looked awesome, and it got more challenging as the technology provided a richer palette. Romero covered that well, which set our company expectations early on.
We should have figured out how to pair up artists and designers earlier, but there was infighting among the designers, and the ones that could manage the visuals were happy to disparage the ones that couldn’t.
Sorry, Sandy.
