First public comment that really goes in depth from Utah Valley, taking a stance against the WAC and the conference’s very public handling of this issue.
TLDR: UVU feels it doesn’t owe the WAC money; actually, the WAC may owe UVU money
The WAC never had the power to stop UVU from competing in the tournament. In fact, if they did, they could possibly be held in contempt of court.
The conference realized they were powerless after the money didn't roll in at 5pm today & walked it back saying they "allow" UVU in.
(Notwithstanding this being under the subhead “order” this remains a directive and not an order)
The very next line says UVU is directed, not ordered, to pay the $1 million to the court as security.
The only “order” here is to bar the WAC from not allowing UVU to play etc.
This is from the Utah Attorney General - says Utah Valley has been trying to deposit the money and calls out the WAC for its threat as an “overt violation” of Friday’s preliminary junction.
@LarsonSports had this first

@LarsonSports As an attorney, I would NEVER advise a client to ignore a court order. Utah Valley is not violating a court order, just a preocedural directive with no time deadline.
The WAC is FLAT OUT WRONG in my legal opinion.

Good breakdown of this issue between Utah Valley and the WAC
It was a ‘directive’ to put $1 million in escrow not a court order
But the WAC was ordered not to ban Utah Valley from the WAC tourney
The WAC is out of line here
The court DIRECTED UVU to pay the $1 million into escrow. It is not a court order.
The court ORDERED the WAC to not prohibit UVU from participation in postseason tournaments.
The WAC is trying to play judge and jury and are going to get themselves into further trouble doing so.
