Lawmakers in Mexico are set to file an anti-trust complaint against Sony due to the company’s controversial decision to stop printing physical games starting January 2028. https://t.co/U5rLTRN3m7
GOG has taken a shot at Sony's decision to stop making PlayStation game discs in 2028, reminding people why many PC gamers like DRM-free games.
GOG posted on X:
"Download the offline installer of any of your games on GOG, save it to a disc, and it's yours forever. You don't need a storefront's permission to play what you bought."
GOG lets you download offline installers for every game you buy.
That means you can back them up and install them anytime, even without the GOG launcher or an internet connection.
DRM-free games, once you buy them, you can keep your own copy and play it whenever you want.

Movies still come on Blu-ray, music is still pressed on vinyl and books still fill store shelves. But as Sony moves to phase out physical PlayStation releases, many gamers are asking why video games should be the first major entertainment medium to go all digital. https://t.co/FagoUG3JVU
More people are signing up, we have to hit as many as we can. It’s now or never, Sony legit thinks they can just ignore this and move on:

The PnP Games petition to show Sony our disgust for them killing ownership has now blasted past 200.000 signatures.
Can't remember whether the Stop Destroying Video Games ECI at its peak even grew at that rate. KEEP IT UP!

Sony is completely ignoring the huge backlash for the killing physical media and ownership. Don't let them get away with it. Voice your disgust under every post they put out until they change course.
PlayStation fought hard and got the previous community note on the post removed, but now they have an even better one.
According to the note, based on leaked info, they lied.
“From the Insomniac leak, PlayStation's own single-player games make up 60-77% of sales.
The data being used to argue for higher digital purchases include DLC, expansions, digital-only games such as early access, and live services.”
A Statement from VGP Regarding Grand Theft Auto VI
As gamers and retailers, we recognize that Grand Theft Auto VI is poised to be one of the biggest entertainment launches in history. The excitement surrounding this release is unprecedented, and we understand why so many customers are eagerly anticipating its arrival.
For nearly 40 years, VGP has been committed to supporting physical media and preserving the value of physical game ownership. As part of that commitment, our company policy is that we do not carry physical products for video game consoles that contain only a digital download code.
Based on the information currently available, the physical release of Grand Theft Auto VI for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X is expected to be a code-in-box product. As a result, VGP will not be offering it for sale under our current company policy.
We want to be clear that this decision is not a reflection of the game itself. We have tremendous respect for Rockstar Games and the incredible achievement that Grand Theft Auto VI represents.
Should Rockstar one day release a physical edition containing a disc in the box, we would be pleased to carry and support that version for our customers.
Thank you for your continued support of physical gaming and for helping us champion game preservation and ownership for nearly four decades.
