Rwanda’s Minister of Sports, @nmukazayire joined women in an energetic celebration of #InternationalWomensDay at an event organized by @Waka_Global Fitness in partnership with @OldMutual_Rw Insurance. The event highlighted the role of sports in women’s empowerment and well-being.

In her remarks, Minister Mukazayire emphasized the transformative power of sports, calling it a vital driver of self-development, discipline, and confidence. “Sport strengthens not only the body but also the mind and soul. It instills discipline, fosters teamwork, and nurtures a competitive spirit,” she said.

She also underscored the broader impact of sports on personal, social, and economic transformation. “Sport gives you confidence and the hope of tomorrow. It pushes you to trust and believe that success is within reach,” she added, encouraging women to embrace sports and other disciplines with determination.

The event, which attracted over 150 participants held as part of #RwandaWomen’s Month celebrations, included various fitness activities and discussions on the importance of women’s participation in sports. Minister Mukazayire reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting women in sports and invited participants to upcoming events, including Carefree Day, which will feature women’s cycling and other sporting activities.

The collaboration between WAKA Fitness and Old Mutual Insurance showcased the private sector’s role in promoting women’s health and empowerment through fitness. As Rwanda continues to set global examples in gender equality, such initiatives reinforce the importance of sports in fostering resilience, ambition, and success among women.

With a full month of activities ahead, Rwanda’s commitment to celebrating and empowering women in sports remains strong. “We can, we will, and we shall,” the minister concluded. @Rwanda_Sports

I have recently witnessed a wave of outrage and criticism surrounding the appointment of Ange Kagame as the Deputy Executive Director of the Strategy & Policy Council/SPC. It is disheartening to see people going bananas over this decision, simply because she happens to be the first daughter of President Kagame. However, I firmly believe that in a fair and just society, no individual should have more rights than others based on their familial connections.

Ange Kagame is not just the first daughter of Rwanda; she is a Rwandan citizen who possesses the same rights as every other citizen. It is important to acknowledge that she has earned her position based on her qualifications and merits. Let us not forget that she holds a master's degree in international affairs from Columbia University in New York. This achievement alone speaks volumes about her capabilities and dedication to her field of expertise.

What strikes me as ironic is that those who are shouting the loudest against her appointment may not even possess the qualifications or experience necessary to be teachers, let alone hold high-ranking positions. It is unfair to judge someone solely based on their familial ties, especially when they have proven themselves academically and professionally.

Let me remind you that Ange Kagame has been working in the president's office for several years. She first joined the SPC in 2015 as a policy analyst, where she played a crucial role in advising the Head of State on key economic policies and strategies. In 2017, she took a break from her work to pursue her Masters in International Affairs at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, which she successfully completed in May 2019.

In September of the same year, she was appointed as a Senior Policy Analyst at SPC, where she has been serving for the past four years. It is evident that Ange Kagame has not only acquired an impressive educational background but has also gained valuable experience in the field of policy analysis and strategy development.

Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that Mrs. Kagame holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government with a Minor in Afro-American Studies from Smith College in the United States. Her educational achievements and professional experiences, including her previous role as a consultant for the Government of Estonia, demonstrate her competence and dedication to public service.

Being the child of a president should not strip an individual of their rights or opportunities. Ange Kagame has every right to work alongside her father, just like any other qualified individual would. It is worth noting that they have been together for the past 29 years, and suddenly, this becomes a problem? This is simply absurd.

It is essential to recognize that Ange Kagame's appointment is not a result of favoritism or nepotism but rather a recognition of her qualifications and capabilities. Let us support her in her new role and remember that the interests of Rwanda should always come first. Nubwo mbizi ko amagambo yose muri kuvuga atayitayeho! Yarezwe ninkotanyi kimwe nabandi benshi bangana, rero ntiyabona imbwa zimoka ngo yiruke.

Rwanda's Cabinet appointed Ms Ange Kagame, daughter to President Kagame, as Deputy Executive Director of the Strategy and Policy Council. Ange is a young, @ColumbiaSIPA alumnus, married and mother of two, civil servant. She is part of a large and growing cadre of young professionals in Rwanda's civil and public service, that has inspired the private sector to follow suit.

To ensure smooth continuity of the ambitious transformation journey Rwanda embarked on after 1994, President Kagame's administration has been remarkably known for supporting the training of, then hiring and appointing young women and men as Cabinet Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Heads of State Institutions, Parastatals, Members of Boards, Local Government officials and many other leadership, management and technical positions.
