You don't have to beg God to come near. The gospel says he already has.
Jesus did not say, “Beg hard enough and perhaps my Father will reveal himself.” He said, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9).
So when your feelings tell you, “God isn't here,” don't make your feelings the judge of God's faithfulness. Feelings change. Christ doesn't.
Faith isn't producing a particular sensation inside yourself. Faith is simply responding to what God has already revealed about himself in Jesus.
Look at Jesus. He welcomed doubters. He touched lepers. He forgave sinners. He ate with people religion rejected. And at the cross, instead of demanding that humanity make its way back to God, God came all the way to us.
You don't need to persuade God to love you. You don't need to pray enough times to get his attention. You already have his attention.
Even the man who said to Jesus, “I believe; help my unbelief!” was not rejected (Mark 9:24). Jesus helped him.
