49 days ago we landed in the USA to follow our country at the World Cup. We had no idea it would turn into the trip of a lifetime.

Thank you to everyone who followed along, and to all the people we met who made this journey even more special. We honestly don’t have the words to express how grateful we are for everything you did for us.

This trip exceeded every expectation we had. We came here with an open mind, wanting to experience as much of the country as possible. I still remember telling my friends on the flight to Atlanta that I hoped we’d get to meet a few locals on this trip. Now we’re flying home with friends all across the USA.

Before we came, we heard so many stereotypes and warnings about America. People told us about safety concerns, that they might check our social media at the border, and all kinds of other things. None of it matched our experience. This was probably the most welcoming country we’ve ever visited.

So if you have the chance to travel, do it. The world isn’t nearly as bad as the media often makes it seem. 99% of people are awesome!

I heard this quote somewhere during the World Cup, and I think it sums up our experience perfectly:

“If you want to hate the world, watch the news. If you want to love it, travel it.”

In 1897, the U.S. Army wanted to know if bicycles could replace horses for infantry. So they took 20 Black soldiers of the 25th Infantry – the Buffalo Soldiers – and gave them a mission: ride from Fort Missoula, Montana to St. Louis. 1,900 miles.

The “Iron Riders” carried 60-pound packs, rifles, and one spare tire each. They crossed the Rockies, the Badlands, and the Great Plains on heavy, single-speed bikes with no roads. Private John Findley fixed flats with strips of his own shirt. They drank from cattle tanks and were refused water in Wyoming towns.

It took 41 days. They averaged 52 miles a day. When they rolled into St. Louis, the white newspapers called it a “stunt.” The Army said “impractical” and shut the program down. But the Iron Riders proved it could be done.

Their commanding officer wrote: “No horse could have made it. These men did.”

Seven ships have reversed course in and around the Red Sea after Yemen’s Houthis began enforcing their newly declared blockade, according to ship-tracking data analysed by Lloyd’s List and Reuters.

Tankers hauling Saudi crude to India and China made U-turns toward Suez, while a Cosco vehicle carrier got a polite email from the Houthi “Humanitarian Operations Coordination Center” cancelling its transit clearance.

The blockade, declared Monday as retaliation for a strike on Sanaa airport, threatens any vessel serving Saudi ports “in any location” within Yemeni reach. No ship has been hit yet, but nobody is waiting around to test the theory.

And we who thought Hormuz would wreck the economy. With Iran squeezing one chokepoint and its Yemeni allies now closing the other, Saudi Arabia’s alternative exit just slammed shut. Brent is past $94, and analysts warn this is where the real economic pain begins.
