Female Indian Physicist Denied Nobel: Bibha Chowdhuri’s Discovery Taken, Credit Given to Another.

In 1940, Indian physicist Bibha Chowdhuri hauled photographic plates up the Himalayas, captured clear tracks of new subatomic particles (mesons/pions), measured their mass, and published in Nature.

Her discovery. Her work.

7 years later, Cecil Powell repeated her exact experiment with better (post-war) emulsions, saw the same particles and won the 1950 Nobel Prize in Physics.

He got the glory. She got forgotten.
Because she was a woman. Because she was Indian.

Because colonial science steals credit and calls it “improvement”.
Bibha Chowdhuri’s brilliance wasn’t overlooked, it was stolen.

Federal support for halal meat production raises serious concerns about equality and state neutrality. Public funding should not prioritize one religious practice while overlooking others, as this risks creating inequality rather than inclusion. Exclusive halal production models raise legitimate questions about employment equity, including whether women and non-Muslims may be indirectly excluded, and whether this aligns with Canada’s human rights framework, which guarantees equal opportunity regardless of gender or religion.

Canada is a secular state. Government should not intervene in or invest in production systems that cater exclusively to the requirements of any one religion. Granting special exemptions or preferential treatment risks undermining equality in a diverse society.

There is already significant harm within the meat industry. This reality calls for stronger, science-based animal welfare standards, not weaker ones. Conventional slaughter methods require animals to be rendered unconscious before bleeding, minimizing pain. Allowing exemptions on religious grounds raises serious ethical and policy concerns that warrant public review.

Designations carry meaning and power. Which is why it is the Hakenkreuz that needs to be classified as a “hate” or "potentially divisive,” NOT the Swastika.

Swastika is not Nazi. It means well-being and is antithetical to Nazi hate. Importantly, Hitler never used the word “Swastika” for his #Nazi symbol. Even in Mein Kampf, Hitler used the word “Hakenkreuz,” a German word meaning “hooked cross.”

While the two symbols might look similar, they are very different. Grouping Swastika with nooses and other such symbols is in itself hateful. It does a disservice to the victims of hate and furthers the agenda of hateful ideologies like Nazism.

In the past couple years, a Republican Governor and a Democratic Governor have both recognized the importance of this nuance and signed laws that make this distinction in Virginia and California. Education is crucial. The United States Coast Guard has a special obligation to stand for truth, and is in a unique position to disseminate correct information
