reminder that "foid" stands for "female humanoid" as a way to refer to women as not human.
"mogging" comes from "AMOG" which stands for "alpha male of the group"
a lot of people on here love parroting slang without realizing its misogynistic 4chan origins. so here's a heads up
RE: Smogon, PS, and AI bots, a 🧵
PS has AI bots participating on ladders or open to challenges. This isn’t something I welcome as the more advanced they get, the worse it is for the state of our game. Smogon is openly platforming one today and I strongly disagree with this.
My take on the showdown bots because some people don’t understand the issue with them.
People go on the showdown ladder to play against humans, to practice for events, etc. It is not satisfying to play against an ai, they make the safest plays, it removes the human… 1/🧵
AI takes away the human element and that’s what makes life beautiful. I don’t wanna hear Claudes retelling of YOUR regional run. Just a slap in the face to the rich history of VGC team reports as a fan of VGC history.
Back when I was a kid one of my favorite things was reading peoples war stories and team reports. There was this magic and beauty in the story and the choices that allowed them to achieve a strong finish. Using AI to tell your story is just flat out loser behavior.
While we’re here, I would like to take an opportunity to plug some artists in the pokemon community who I’ve had the pleasure of knowing, some have made artwork for me, and some I have just appreciated in passing.
Feel free to plug yourself too 🌱
i think if we’re going to have conversations about SA and rape culture as a community, our call to action has to be stronger and more specific
because YES correct your friends!! but be specific about what that means: challenge victim blaming, rape jokes, reflexively defending your friends, turning accusations into gossip, or expecting survivors to publicly prove every detail before theyre taken seriously
underreporting and institutional failure doesnt happen just because people need to be a little more thoughtful. if we're going to cite stats, we need to explain what they mean and why they matter because people genuinely may not know
YES that can mean taking on emotional/educational labor, and NO ONE owes that labor 24/7, but if we are choosing to educate a community, some of that labor is part of actually moving the conversation forward
i WANT allies to speak about this. i WANT men with platforms to speak about this
but having a platform also gives you the opportunity to go further than 'we should all do better'
the goal here shouldnt just be making spaces more welcoming overall- we are talking about sexual. violence.
the goal is making spaces safer, making survivors less afraid to speak and making harmful behavior harder for communities to excuse or normalize.
i think we’ve made real progress toward that together, but that also means continuing to be specific about what needs to change 🤍
Tw: sexual assault, Cornell 7
In college I was involved in student orgs against campus SA and dealt with admin apathy to reporting.
Investigations broadly fail to provide any justice even with evidence and are more often just triggering for survivors.
