I just saw Jamie Carragher talking about how the Premier League has fallen short when it comes to superstar players and world-class managers, and I actually understand the argument.

Most of the biggest superstar players right now are playing for clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and PSG.

And I think a lot of this comes down to the competitiveness and balance of the Premier League.

At clubs like Bayern, PSG, Barcelona and Real Madrid, you don't have to constantly play teams like #AVFC, #BHAFC, #NUFC, #CPFC, #EFC and #FFC while also facing giants like #AFC, #MUFC, #LFC, #MCFC and #CFC.

For a forward, that can become a nightmare, especially when you combine it with the insane schedule in England.

Look at Haaland.

He came to the Premier League and immediately destroyed the league, scoring 36 goals in his first season, breaking the all-time record and finishing with more than 50 goals in all competitions for that incredible #MCFC side under Pep Guardiola.

Three seasons later, he still hasn't replicated that league campaign despite being one of the greatest goalscorers the sport has ever produced.

I genuinely believe if Haaland played for Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, we'd see those ridiculous numbers more consistently.

We've already seen Mbappé and Harry Kane produce insane numbers in La Liga and the Bundesliga.

And Kane is a perfect example.

He was already world-class at #THFC, but moving to Bayern allowed him to put up ridiculous numbers consistently, and suddenly people started looking at him differently.

The Premier League's competitiveness is actually one of the reasons why it can be a terrible platform for individual superstar numbers.

Teams like #CPFC, #AVFC, #NUFC and #BHAFC can spend £50m+ on players. In most other leagues, you don't have that kind of financial power spread across so many clubs outside the traditional giants.

That's why the gap between the big clubs and the rest is much smaller in England.

And there's another huge advantage for superstars playing outside England.

PSG can rest players like Dembélé, Vitinha and Kvaratskhelia in league games and have them fresh for the Champions League.

Try doing that in the Premier League.

Rest your best player for a league game because you're preparing for the Champions League and you could get embarrassed.

So it's not that Premier League clubs can't afford superstar players.

The league itself is just an incredibly demanding environment for producing those ridiculous individual numbers and maintaining that superstar aura.

Imagine Bruno Fernandes playing for PSG, Bayern or Real Madrid while producing the level he has shown at #MUFC.

He'd be getting all-time great shouts.

Imagine Salah putting up his Liverpool numbers in La Liga.

People would talk about him like a football god.

And honestly, I believe both players would probably put up even better numbers in those leagues.

The Premier League might be the most competitive league in the world.

But that same competitiveness can make it the worst environment for individual superstars to consistently look superhuman.
