For the above ground build: E.O.Wilson’s Half Earth policy. Half of all space remains with nature..high density build in the remaining half. Most of above ground should be a park.. sustainable garden..a vacation paradise.. we are not banished..we choose order over chaos..by choosing planned underground cities..above ground is transformed as a regenerative sink for all natural resources ..

We have two predominant scales of farming: small organic farms and large-scale agricultural enterprises…both adopting technology at varying paces(the latter adoption faster due to easy access/capital). My position is that smaller acreage farms are influenced by their inherent microeconomic dynamics more favourably than ginormous ag corporations.
3/5: The inherent advantage small farms holds over larger farms is their NIMBLENESS in implementation. A small acreage organic tomato farm could swiftly integrate an AI-driven pest detection system, reaping its benefits before their larger counterpart has even finished its preliminary assessments. This agility extends to their market responsiveness as there is direct customer feedback.
4/5: At the heart of a small organic farm's operation is its COST EFFICIENCY. Maybe it’s a quaint organic strawberry farm that has traditionally relied on manual labor. A scale appropriate harvest automation minimizes labour expenses(that are usually higher in urban centers than at farming zipcodes). Small acreage automation OPTIMIZES for cost efficiency while at larger scale, it’s a pricier replacement for an over optimized service.
5/5: In the realm of BRANDING, these smaller farms have carved out distinctive niches. Their brand reaches ethnic produce that is hard to find or medicinal herbs or artisanal niches that large farms cannot deliver. A local restaurant buying tomatoes from a rooftop urban farm is branding for the restaurant and that’s a premium.
The sheer operational magnitude impedes rapid technological adoption. A game changing revolutionary innovation could take years for full-scale implementation on a large farm simply due to its extensive acreage. And this being tech sector, most definitely higher risk for obsolescence. They also lack direct market connection. Adjusting to market trends is a cumbersome shift in their supply chain. Makes them REACTIVE rather than PROACTIVE to markets.
However, large farms DO have the advantage of economies of scale. Their investment in a state-of-the-art soil testing system, when spread across 1000s of acres, reduces the cost per acre, making certain technological adoptions more economically viable in the long run.
Yes…the scale of operation dictates the pace and nature of technological adoption. While large farms benefit from spreading costs over vast expanses, they often lack the agility of their smaller, organic counterparts. Small farms are uniquely positioned to harness the benefits of both organic practices and technological advancements, carving a path that's sustainable, profitable and in sync with modern demands for our new tech savvy population.
Having said that, EVERYONE..small acreages as well large farming corporation behemoths…benefits from automation. We need automation solutions at BOTH 10-30k range as well as the 1-2 million bracket.

2/5: Subsidies, Grants, and Specialty Produce Farming: Why Small Acreage Farms Matter! A Macroeconomic perspective.
2.1: But first!! Let's talk about money given to farms and how it affects the types of crops they grow. There are two main ways we look at this: one is like taking a bird's-eye view of the whole country's economy, and the other is zooming in to look at individual farms and businesses.
2.2: Next…Big View vs. Close-up. When we look at the big picture, we're talking about things like how the country's money is doing and where jobs are. But when we zoom in, we look at how a single farmer decides what to grow and how to sell it.
2.3: The 💰 Part: Governments sometimes give money to help farmers. This can be in two ways: a regular amount (called subsidies) or a one-time help (called grants). This money helps farmers keep their prices low(former) or try new things(latter).
2.4 But not all farms are the same! Some farms grow what we call 'staple' foods like wheat or rice..commodity crops like corn, soybean etc. These are things almost everyone eats. They are traded and hedged at the financial exchanges.
2.5: While other farms ..smaller ones..grow 'specialty' foods like fruits or certain veggies. These might be things we enjoy but are also highly perishable. They rely on supply chain, logistics and transportation optimizations and efficiencies making them ‘farm to fork’.
2.6: Davids and Goliaths: Huge farms can produce a lot of food(lettuce) and might even sell it to other countries(almonds). But small farms are closer to the people who eat their food(eggplant, bitter melon, spices, herbs) know exactly what local people like, and can quickly try growing different things.
2.7: Why Small Farms are Special 💕 : Even though they're tiny, small farms are super important. They grow different types of food, help local areas, and can quickly change how they farm. If we support them with money and advice, it can make our food better and our local areas thrive.
2.8: While all farms are important, small ones that grow special foods have a unique place. It's a good idea for governments to support them because it's not only about food but about keeping local areas lively and diverse. They especially need help with staying organic and adapting new technology(automation/agrobotics) because even though they lack scale, they can leapfrog and how high!
2.9 But how does this tie into macro economic perspective? Well..small acreage farms obtaining subsidies and grants has both macro and microeconomic import!
