The boy who chose shoes over code.
— Yinka Atunde, a computer science graduate of Babcock University, saw his plans change in 2015 when delays to the NYSC programme gave him time to rethink his next steps.
— Instead of tech, he followed his love for design. He travelled to Italy for a shoemaking course with placements in Italian factories, then toured factories in China, where the pace was faster and more commercial.
—Then came the move that shocked everyone at home: back in Nigeria in 2015, he took a manual job in a local shoe factory, to the dismay of his family.
From fashion shoes to safety boots
— Yikodeen started in 2016 making fashion shoes, then a police contract pointed it toward safety footwear. Work on safety boots began in 2018, but certification and COVID slowed things down.
— The big break? Saipem, the Italian oil-services firm, tested the boots and started ordering in 2022, proving a Nigerian maker could meet strict safety standards.
— Local content helped too: Yikodeen is one of the few domestic manufacturers certified by NCDMB to supply safety footwear to the oil and gas sector. Regulation did the rest.
— Lagos State Safety Commission now inspects even small construction sites, where workers once wore flip-flops. Demand got so heavy that they had to reject all military footwear orders for lack of capacity.
Enter the money
— Aruwa Capital @AruwaCapital invested $1.5 million from its Fund II as sole investor, to buy equipment that would take capacity 10x to 2,500 pairs a day, grow corporate sales and improve efficiency.
— The investor's logic is worth noting: many of Yikodeen's corporate clients pay in dollars, a natural hedge against naira depreciation.
— Aruwa has since led a follow-on round, with the company adding an upgraded plant and specialised lines for electrical and water-hazard environments.
Ten years on
Yikodeen claims over five million pairs in ten years and capacity of 5,000 pairs daily from a 120,000 sq ft factory in Ejigbo, Lagos.
Ṣé wọn fi orí ẹ gbálẹ̀ ní kékeré ni? Or you are just plain stup1d?
Did you not see the name of the VP on Nigeria there?
To travel abroad is a choice. It has nothing to with the quality of health care here.
Where we have quality care problems is with the states and it is not limited to @OfficialAPCNg . Was Yar'adua and APC president? Was Stella Obasanjo an APC first Lady?
Are you just born d4ft?
I was reading and thought you had a bit of sense. The other states, why have they not made their states viable for such private investments?
Do you know why we have a concentration of orthopaedic specialists in Lagos both public and private?
Because the state government cared enough.
The Okada menace in Lagos saw hundreds of thousands of Lagos residents lose limbs. Imagine the impact of this on the economy of a State like Lagos.
@followlasg Governors who sequentially tackled the "Okada menace" through strict policy enforcement, strengthened orthopaedic medical care, and actively championed private-sector partnerships is his Excellency Mr. @tundefashola , with subsequent sustained enforcement and healthcare expansions carried out by his Excellency Mr. @jidesanwoolu.
Prior to these structural policy changes, the high rate of Okada crashes overwhelmed local emergency systems, to the point where hospitals like the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, had dedicated "Okada wards" to accommodate the influx of victims with severe limb injuries.
Fashola's 2012 traffic laws immediately decongested these orthopaedic emergency rooms. Medical directors at Igbobi and other state general hospitals reported a massive drop in the number of amputations and bone trauma admissions right after enforcement.
Under Sanwo-Olu's administration, the state built and upgraded specialized health infrastructure—including the construction of advanced Orthopaedic, Radiology, and Dialysis departments at the General Hospital, Lagos—to structurally manage trauma cases.
Fashola initiated multi-sector partnerships and consistently advocated that the long-term sustainability of top-tier medical facilities depended on private investment and multi-sector funding.
Sanwo-Olu formalized this via executive orders and policy frameworks (such as the Lagos State Health Scheme/LASMIEZO). The policy explicitly incentivizes the private sector to build and run specialist medical centers, diagnostic networks, and private hospitals, bridging the state's healthcare funding deficit through private enterprise.
Back to your purile argument about why concentration in one part of the country? It was at this point I knew you had little or no gray matter.
What's stopping other state government to upgrade their PHCs and State Teaching hospitals?
Again it isn't about the Federal Government, they have capable hands. It is not about APC. It is about the fact that Perry could and would have been taken care of in Nigeria.
As for the "common man" let them start now demanding from their state government and let them sign up on @HealthNhis instead of saying "it is well". Government has provided the things required to obtain low cost health.
By the way I didn't know that hip replacement surgery is malaria that is contracted everyday.
Ọ̀dẹ̀ ni púpọ̀ nínú yín.
Post police officer from Kalajanga in Billiri LG in Gombe to come catch local thief in Iyinta village in Atakumosa East LG in Osun State. How will he understand the Ijesha dialect to start with?
We ignored the fundamental deficiencies in our policing structure for decades until it degenerated completely.
United lining up yet another manager is again a reminder of Mikel Arteta’s greatness. He walked into a mess in his first managerial job, delivered hard truths to the #Arsenal execs and players, and changed the culture. He wasn’t given the environment to succeed; he created it.
After that check out Aproko Doctor's YouTube and see how he had lifesaving brain surgery to remove a tumor at a Congolese hospital...
Let's all be angry together.

PRESIDENTIAL WORKING GROUP APPLAUDS AS STATE POLICE AMENDMENT CLEARS CONSTITUTIONAL THRESHOLD IN STATE ASSEMBLIES
The Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill notes with satisfaction that the Constitution (Sixth Alteration) Bill, 2026, providing for a dual policing system, has been approved by 24 State Houses of Assembly, meeting the constitutional threshold of two-thirds of the 36 states.
The Working Group commends the State Houses of Assembly for their decisive action on this reform of national importance and appreciates the National Assembly for passing the amendment in both chambers.
In line with Section 9 of the Constitution, the amendment can now be returned to the National Assembly for transmission to Mr President for assent.
The approval gives constitutional backing to the policing framework that the Working Group's draft National Policing Bill, 2026 is designed to implement.
The Working Group’s efforts remain on track. The draft Bills are currently undergoing legislative drafting review and validation at the Federal Ministry of Justice and are expected to be returned on or before Friday, 30th October 2026. Thereafter, the Group will give them final consideration before presenting them to Mr President.
The Working Group urges all stakeholders to support a smooth transition to a dual policing system that makes Nigerians safer.

Túndé Ọ̀nákọ̀yà—the founder of Chess in Slums Africa—underwent his total hip replacement surgery at Marigold Hospital in Lagos.
The extensive, six-hour procedure was performed in July 2023 by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Eyitayo Alabi and his medical team to correct a long-standing case of Avascular Necrosis (AVN). Think of what the facility must look like now.
We have hospitals in Nigeria that are equipped to handle Samuel Perry's accident. I'll list some:
Private Centers:
• Marigold Hospital (Lagos) – Highly regarded for orthopedics.
• Reddington Hospital (Lagos)
• Evercare Hospital (Lagos)
• Cedacrest Hospitals (Abuja & Lagos) – Extensively specialized in advanced orthopedic and trauma surgeries.
Public Teaching Hospitals:
• Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH)
• University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan
• National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi (Lagos) – Nigeria's premier public hub dedicated entirely to bone and joint surgeries.
If your post was about the quality of the PHCs and low tier private hospital overseen by states then you'll be making a very valid point.
When Samuel Perry was shot in Alákùkọ, he couldn't choose his hospital.
In a critical emergency, a patient is at the mercy of whatever ambulance or private vehicle picks them up, traffic conditions, and the nearest open clinic.
If again the question is about Nigeria's emergency response system which is state based and mostly uncoordinated I would understand. Patients like Samuel Perry often end up stabilized at lower-tier hospitals first. Once a major surgery fails or complications arise, the patient's family often panics and opts to fly abroad rather than risk transferring to another local hospital. This has nothing to do with the quality of treatment here or APC or Tinúbú.
Choosing to travel to Dubai for a hip replacement is significantly more expensive than getting top-tier care domestically.
• Elite Private Care in Nigeria: A total hip replacement at an elite private hospital in Lagos or Abuja typically costs between ₦8 million and ₦15 million (roughly $5,000 to $10,000 USD, depending on exchange rates and implant types).
• In Dubai, the surgery alone often starts at $18,000 to $25,000 USD. When you add business-class flights (necessary for someone who cannot bend their hip), hotel stays for weeks of rehabilitation, and visas, the total cost can easily exceed $35,000 to $45,000 USD.
That Dubai budget could easily fund three to four hip replacements at Nigeria's absolute best private facilities.
Decades of systemic underfunding in the public health sector have created a psychological narrative: "If you have the money, leave*.
Even though private facilities like Cedacrest or Marigold possess world-class orthopedic theaters, many Nigerians are locked in that psychological bubble and they take to flight because of fear which is understandable but not a reason to dunk on Nigeria or the APC government.
Like @0xkitng asked what has the person or party that you support done with the state of health in their states? What is the data telling us.
Not to shit on Samuel Perry but all these yeyebrities and the dogs around them don't even have an idea of what's available around them.
I am happy for him but Nigeria could have taken care of him if he was better informed and at a price that won't hurt his pocket.
Ask @ProfOsinbajo ask @Tunde_OD.
Bukayo Saka faces a minimum of 6 weeks out. Some sources say the timeline for a return is 6-8 weeks but its important to update as and when his recovery begins as these situations are complex.
More scans today as Mikel said.
The lad has given everything for this club.
Kompany has never beaten Arteta in 3 tries.
Maresca has never beaten Arteta in 4 tries.
Diego Simeone has never beaten Mikel Arteta in 3 tries.
Marco Bielsa has never beaten Mikel Arteta in 5 tries.
Ange Postecoglou has never beaten Mikel Arteta in 5 tries.
He also has a winning record against Eddie Howe, Carlo Ancelotti, Antonio Conte, and Erik Ten Hag.
Even Klopp, who racked up wins against us when Arteta was still building the team, had only a 1 win advantage over Arteta by the time he left Liverpool (6 wins, 3 draws, 5 losses).
There's no current EPL manager with a winning record over Mikel Arteta.
Are you slow? Do you guys just like being dumb for online responses? What is wrong with you?
I don't understand people on Twitter. On a platform where you can have meaningful conversations with people from all over the world, you just decide to use it to say dumb shit with no logical backing whatsoever.
Can't even lie, Arsenal Fans are the easiest to rage bait on this App. All you have to do is tweet that Dalot is a far better fullback than Timber and you'll get all the traction in the world🤣🤣🤣🤣
Even though I have called to appreciate and hype him personally, I still have to appreciate my lawyer, @RidwanuLlah and all the team members at @IrisAttorneys. Last month, I wanted to take a step that would have spelt doom for a land case I have and probably put me in trouble. He advised me against it and stated his reasons. I didn't like his advice at all. What I had in mind looked like the best step. However, I succumbed and listened to him.
Ladies and gentlemen, his legal advice saved the case and me from trouble. Now, we've won, totally. I also want to appreciate @Letter_to_Jack for coming to stay with us yesterday. God bless you, bro. You know I love you.
