Yes, therapy helps heal trauma. Learning about the mind-body connection is also a great resource. What is often overlooked is the power of validation. The words that tell someone we don’t think they’re crazy, we think they’re hurting. This has immediate and lasting impact.
It’s funny, I remember when I was a kid and my mum explained periods to me and I was like - sorry, what the fuck?? This sounds appalling??? And now I’ve been menstruating for nearly 20 years I have to say - I was spot on
Reasons why this is NOT good
1️⃣ We have a RETENTION problem not recruitment
2️⃣ without experienced RNs who is going to educate in PLEs
3️⃣ we have a shortage of nurse academics. So again, who is going to educate them?
4️⃣ plug the multiple holes in bucket BEFORE adding more water
I don't make a ton of mistakes at work but when I do I make them in front of the same person every single time who must think I am the dumbest person ever to live
@MRadford_HEECN 🤞🤞 hoping the work behind this follows through for all. Learning to be a nurse is a privilege and I'd love to see the rise is interest be matched by a ready workforce. Time will tell
Let's not rest on numbers alone - more students without proper support in training has a risk of affecting quality of learning. Can't just bring more people in the room without looking at what resources are currently available to train them.
Today @ucas_corporate have released their end of cycle data. @CNOEngland and I are thrilled to see we have exceeded 30,000 acceptances for nursing & midwifery courses at English universities for the very first time this year. This works out as a 34% increase since 2018. (1/5)
Every day, children across the UK are admitted to hospital. The ability to play and laugh is essential for these children and their families.
But, more than half of all UK hospitals don't have the budget to make play happen, and a third don't have dedicated play professionals.
@Kiml71@WeStudentNurse @StNurseProject @Gpnsnn@RCNStudents Basics of simply creating a culture of inclusion go so far in making for a good placement. Great things you get to see and do are fab of course, but feeling welcome at work everyday is far more conducive to good learning. Too easy to be seen as "a student" rather than a human
I have a vivid memory of opening up to a uni doctor at 22 about mental health issues I barely understood, and his reaction was to ask me if I'd "talked to Mam recently". I have never felt so infantalised. It was a few years, and acute MH crisis later, before I tried a GP again.

Clinical Educators can provide practical and emotional support ❤️
The Golem effect is where our behaviour leads to poorer student performance.
It's where we place lower expectations on our students, and consequently their performance is worse.
If you've ever had a supervisor who doesn't believe in you, you'll know this effect well.
Women who stand up for themselves get penalized.
51 studies: a woman who negotiates for herself fears—and faces—backlash as selfish & aggressive.
If she negotiates for others, suddenly she seems caring.
I want to live in a world that celebrates women advocating for themselves.
