This alert is in effect for the City of Calgary.

The Government of Alberta has issued an exemption for the Calgary Police Service to issue an AMBER Alert for Calgary for missing 11 year old Parker. He was last seen in the northeast community of Thorncliffe on Thursday, July 16 at 12:52 PM. He is 4’1” tall, 90 pounds, brown hair, brown eyes, wearing black shorts, noise-cancelling headphones and no shirt.

If found, do not approach, call 9 1 1. People in the communities of Cambrian Heights, Thorncliffe, North Haven, North Haven Upper, Highwood, Highland Park, Greenview, Greenview Industrial Park are asked to thoroughly check their property. Property tax bills are due today. Imagine if Ottawa forced Alberta to collect a big federal tax hike on provincial letterhead. That's how municipalities are treated with the Province's 57% property tax increase over four years. It's time to keep property taxes local, with clear accountability and transparency.

Imagine if Justin Trudeau ordered Danielle Smith to collect a massive federal tax increase through Alberta's tax bill. She'd be furious.

That’s exactly what’s happening today to Alberta’s cities, with today’s deadline to pay your property tax bill. Not many of you may know, but now upwards of half of your property taxes go to the provincial government, and not the town, city, or municipality you live in.

The biggest increase on your property tax bill didn't come from City Hall. It came from the Provincial government.

The Province imposed a 21 percent increase on your property tax bill, the largest property tax increase in Calgary's history. Over the past four years, it has increased the education property tax by 57 percent.

By comparison, our Council held the municipal property tax increase to just 1.8 percent. That funds police, firefighters, roads, transit, parks, snow clearing, recreation centres, and the infrastructure that keeps Calgary moving.

Because of the Province's education property tax equalization formula, Calgary homeowners are paying about twice the increase faced by Edmonton homeowners.

Don't take my word for it. Here's how the Premier herself describes where a large share of your property tax goes.

"If we're going to rail against equalization at the federal level, then we can't keep doing the same thing to our municipalities..."

The Premier is right.

If we're going to oppose equalization at the federal level, we shouldn't be doing the same thing to Alberta's municipalities.

Property taxes are local taxes. They should stay local.

The Province should fund provincial priorities through its other revenue sources, and municipalities should collect property taxes for local services.

Given the economic damage Alberta separation would cause Calgary, staying silent is not an option. I believe municipalities should be allowed to tell residents what the evidence says. I'm calling on the Province to remove the restrictions so cities can commission and share independent, fact based research on the local impacts of separation.

We are also seeing coordinated foreign interference and disinformation designed to fuel division. Calgary's future depends on stability, investment, and public confidence. We are ready to help get credible information into the hands of Calgarians. The Province should let us.

Looks like the fun police have struck again in Alberta, this time targeting people trying to enjoy a pint.

This last-minute hike before Stampede will raise the minimum price of a beer from $3.20 to $5, a 60% increase. The provincial government will negatively affect thousands of workers and create additional problems for bars and restaurants already facing higher costs.

Many major provinces successfully support thriving brewing and hospitality industries without raising minimum drink prices by this much. Alberta’s brewing industry is one of our signature success stories. It supports local jobs, attracts visitors, and gives communities something to be proud of.

The Premier and AGLC should reconsider these changes and work with operators to find a solution that balances responsible service with the economic and cultural benefits these businesses bring to our province.

Alberta’s public health-care system is being steadily eroded by the UCP government as they barrel forward with their plans to introduce a two-tier, American-style, for-profit system here in our province. Michelle, that is false.

The City did not change the rules days before Stampede. Operators who ran past midnight last year were told in February that updated conditions would apply. Cowboys was told again in May.

The exemption was conditional. It depended on operators managing noise, safety, and impacts on nearby residents. They did not meet that standard.

We are taking public safety in our downtown seriously. Last year several hundred people brought complaints. People reported property damage, windows shaking, items falling from shelves, music until 2 a.m., disorder, and excessive intoxication spilling into nearby neighbourhoods.

The City still permits concerts until midnight on weeknights, with cool-down music past midnight. Weekend concerts run until 1:30 a.m., with cool-down music until 2 a.m.

No gets a free pass to disturb residents or create unsafe conditions. A great city backs major events and holds operators accountable.
