@BekoUK Hi, I wrote to you two days ago because our induction hob that we got from is under warranty and it's broken. We went through your Contact section on your website and have heard nothing and had no confirmation email either. Please advise how to proceed
@davechensky I meant conversation within the UK. As a country we need a complete overhaul of how we view these figures and I would say the opposite has happened in recent years (see also the Conservative media and institutions' treatment of Meghan Markle and Prince Andrew)
@davechensky I suppose I would add, that since this show started airing, it has not sparked any critical conversation or re-examining of these figures (royal and political). Which I think is a major failing if you're making a show on this topic.
@davechensky Yes. But they were a lot MORE terrible in reality. I will admit, this is probably all harder to stomach if you live amongst it and are surrounded by propaganda for these figures. As a non-Brit it must be easier to set those things aside. So I will acknowledge my bias there.
@davechensky I also think that after 12 years of a Conservative government and the disaster that is Brexit, a show like this, with its light touch on criticising these figures, does more harm than good to public education.
@davechensky It was also way too kind on Churchhill and Thatcher, which is problematic when we are fighting to get a more accurate representation of them depicted in schools and popular culture.
@davechensky Fair point. I think it TOUCHES on those things but doesn't go anywhere near far enough in making that point. And in particular doesn't give enough accountability to the queen as being instrumental in upholding it.
@davechensky Just want to add, love your work, Dave, and hearing your thoughts on all things TV and film. You are a very interesting and thoughtful person to listen to.
@davechensky Part 4: As a country we need to examine how damaging it is to have a monarchy and conservative governments, and how the two are inextricably linked and support each other. This show fails on all levels to do that. Apologies for the long response!
@adamthevoyager @jowrotethis All that being said, I love Joanna and love her work. We can disagree on something and still not have any lingering animosity (I hope).
@adamthevoyager @jowrotethis It's the confidence with which Americans are being wrong in this tweet thread (not you specifically so I don't know why you're being defensive). It's just really something to say, "this is what a Spanish person says" and be told "no they don't".
@adamthevoyager @jowrotethis I made a point of asking all my Spanish friends today. They agreed that the Brit pronunciation of tapas is pretty much the same as how they say it. The way the Americans say it is not. I also speak Spanish - though not native speaker - so I know how to pronounce chorizo & paella
@jowrotethis This whole conversation is fascinating and a reminder of just how insular Americans are and seemingly don't learn about any culture unless it directly surrounds them. From a European perspective that's fascinating.
